Beauty, Makeup, TravelEssentials For A Summer Escape: Part 1

Summer is here and it’s time for vay-cays!!! But if you’re a beauty junkie, deciding what beauty products can take hours of debate — and even more difficult, is packing them into your bags! Well, this summer, we’re coming to your rescue with a guide of the must-have beauty products you should take on your trip – whether it’s a relaxing weekend getaway in the Hamptons, backpacking through Europe or a dedicated surf trip in Hawai’i. We’re breaking this into two parts, Makeup and Skincare/Hair.

Part 1 of our summer travel beauty essentials guide is all about makeup! Let’s get started!

FACE – There’s no reason to apply thicker foundation; it’s going to just look messy and too heavy during summer months. A tinted moisturizer or a mineral powder are my recommendations. We all know that I adore Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer ($40), which provides coverage where you need it, while making your skin look glowy. Another much beloved tinted moisturizer is DuWop Revolotion Face ($29). It produces a matte finish that leaves your face is looking flawless. Both contain SPF so it also protects against UV damage. Want a mineral powder? Try Urban Decay’s brand new Universal Surreal Skin Mineral Powder ($28). This weightless powder will neutralize redness, banish shine and even out skin out. It comes in a built-in shaker dispenser topped with a thick puff (no brushes involved)! Lastly, if you’re going to skip it all together, just pick up a tube of Smashbox Photo-Finish Primer To Go ($15.50 at Sephora) for a smooth, matte complexion.

CHEEKS – Blush or bronzer? Either one works! Just pick one. Lorac Caribbean Heat ($28) is shimmering bronzing trio that is will leave you wonderfully sunkissed. Recently voted best bronzer by Self Magazine, Physcians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Bronzing Veil ($12) is a great option. It delivers perfectly bronzed cheeks in a mess-free applicator, with the powder dispensed through brush. For blush, try something really easy to use like Smashbox O-Glow. It’s compact and will deliver perfectly natural-looking blush due to its unique formulation.

EYES – Eyeshadows tend to just melt off your face when the weather gets warm and humid. The trick for travel is finding an eye shadow that is not only easy to use, but also has staying power. Tarte Cosmetics offers a great solution in their Lock & Roll eyeshadow duos ($28) in Bronze and Patina. They’re long-lasting, crease-resistant and even waterproof! On on end, the lighter powder shadows provide a lighter finish that’s great for day. On the other, it’s a cream shadow that is all about metallics – great for a fun night out! Palettes are also a great option if you want variety. Try Fresh Roman Holiday Eye Shadow Palette ($48) for some fun, sunlit shades. I like the very wearable warm, sunny shades, as well as that beautiful teal shadow.

LIPS - Take only one product – whether it’s a lip gloss, lipstick, lip balm, etc. You really don’t need more than that. We highly recommend choosing one that contains SPF. Lancome Le Rouge Absolu Lipstick ($25) contains protective vitamin E and SPF15. Pick the shade of your choice! The BalmShelter LipGlosses by theBalm ($18) have SPF17 and are available in long-wearing shades.

SCENT - Get a mini-version of your favorite fragrance. We like b.e. Becker.Eshaya fragrance pen ($45), which is super slim 7.7ml bottle that has a roller ball applicator; it’s sealed with a spring to eliminate leaking. It’s young, fresh and sensual! Kai perfume oil ($45) is another favorite that comes in a tiny .125 oz. bottle. This scent is all about gardenia and one of my all-time favorites. In fact, everyone always tells me that they love this whenever I wear it. Lastly, fragrances from Comptoir Sud Pacifique ($27) do double duty. You can use them at home AND travel, as each bottle is available in .75 oz. silver spill-proof atomizer. The scents are completely delicious and will remind you of home. Our favorites are Vanille Abricot and Vanille Coco.

MAKEUP REMOVER – In my opinion, towelettes are the best option for travel. Citrus Travel Towelettes by Crabtree & Evelyn ($5) are lightly fragranced with the sparkling scent of pink grapefruit, orange and lemon – and are very refreshing to use, even during your flight. Olay Daily Facials Express Cleansing Cloths ($6) stay moist and actually simultaneously cleanse and moisturize due to vitamin E. My personal favorite are Apivita Express Cleansing Tissues 3-in-1 ($9). Chamomile makes them very soothing; it also takes off everything without stripping your skin and leaving it dehydrated.
