Beauty, MakeupTDO Beauty Spotlight: Piaffe

Lately, I’ve been trying to expand my horizons when it comes to makeup so I’ve been trying some new brands that I’ve never picked up before. One up and coming brand, Piaffe, has completely won me over and has worked itself into my daily makeup routine.

ABOUT THE BRAND: Piaffe is beauty inspired by perfection. Marie Regan, the founder of Piaffe, was inspired by the art of equine dressage and brought over its essence of precision, grace and sophistication to creating a range of makeup products for the elegant woman. Piaffe’s range of products are all mineral and vitamin based, making it ideal even for sensitive skin. A lot of products contain Vitamins A, C and E for anti-oxidant and anti-aging protection. And best of all, the mineral based makeup looks totally natural and naturally radiant. The cornerstone ingredient that Regan puts in all of Piaffe products is the horse chestnut flower extract, which is a natural ingredient that improves micro-circulation in the skin and boosts the skin’s natural vitality.

STAND OUT PRODUCTS: I have 3 favorite products from this line that I use every day: the Mineral Sheer Tint, the Mineral Pressed Powder SPF 8 and the Beautiful Lash Mascara.

The Mineral Sheer Tint ($42, 1.25oz) is my staple for the summer when I don’t want to use foundation or have dry skin from tanning. Available in 3 tints, the Sheer Tint is absolutely foolproof and really great when your skin is blotched from too much sun exposure. It totally evens out your complexion while providing SPF 20, vitamins and moisture to your face. My skin has never reacted well to sun exposure, but I find that the Sheer Tint helps soothe it a great deal while providing adequate coverage for redness and dry patches.

The Mineral Pressed Powder ($38, 0.39oz) is probably my favorite product in this line. Since I am prone to oily skin, I apply this over makeup in the morning and then throw it in my purse for touch ups throughout the day. It does a great job smoothing and mattifying my skin. I feel like it magically “fills in” my pores, making them seem way less defined. Unlike some other pressed powders I’ve tried, this one does not look cakey at all. It invisibly blends into your skin, providing a very natural finish. Plus, I love the big mirror that comes in the compact. The powder comes in 4 shades, which covers a wide range of skin tones.

Lastly, I also looove the Beautiful Lash Mascara ($22). Very few mascaras work for me, but this one is perfect. There is absolutely no clumping, or flaking or smudging whatsoever. The mascara acts as a lash lengthener and builder, creating very glossy and very natural-looking lashes. It is also gentle, fragrance-free and non-irritating. I always watch for lashes that fall out when I try new mascaras, and that hasn’t happened with this one at all. For those of you that like the results you get with Lancome Definicils, the Piaffe Mascara provides a very similar finish, but this formula also contains silk protein and Vitamin E to keep lashes strong. Definitely one of the best mascaras I have used- great for the every day look.

OTHER GREAT FINDS: One of the lip glosses I always reach for when I’m out for the evening is Piaffe’s Super Gloss in Raspberry ($20). I’ve always been a fan of strong red lips, but tend to shy away from using lipstick because I’m scared of it fading/feathering/drying out. Piaffe’s Super Gloss in Raspberry provides one of the prettiest reds I’ve used in a very moisturizing and glossy (but not trampy) formula that lasts for hours without fading. The formulation is not sticky and provides the perfect amount of color. Even though the color is listed as Raspberry, I find that its really a true red and looks great on Asian, olive as well as very fair complexions. It definitely makes my lips stand out and I feel secure that my color isn’t smudging, bleeding or turning into another shade. This gloss provides great wear!

RECOMMENDED FOR: Piaffe is a great product line for people who enjoy mineral based makeup and want a very natural finish and healthy look. Everything is designed to make your skin look natural and flawless, without looking made up. Unlike some other types of heavier makeup, Piaffe is designed mostly for day wear as it creates a very fresh and pretty face. I also think this line is great for sensitive skin because everything is hypoallergenic and fragrance-free. While the color collection is appropriate for anyone, I would recommend the face makeup (foundation/powders) to people who don’t need a lot of coverage.

Currently, Piaffe can be purchased online from their website, at Henri Bendel in NYC and various Bliss Spa across the US. I would highly recommend stopping by the counter the next time you’re makeup shopping and have a try for yourself!
