Shobha Threading

Last week I visited a great NY spa called Shobha, which I first heard about this summer when my friend swore by their bikini waxes. I visited their Columbus Circle location, got a wax (amazing) and also indulged in one of their signature facials (even more amazing).
The spa, started by Michigan native Shobha Tummala, brings to New York the secrets of Indian beauty including skincare and hair removal. Shohba specialists use a practically painless, precise, and natural method of hair removal called threading. Apparently, benefits also include acne and wrinkle prevention- making it appropriate for people with sensitive skin or using topical medications such as Retin-A.
When I went in for my wax, I was greeted by Jamuna, a friendly, sweet and very professional specialist who put me at ease right away. She explained that Shobha uses sugar wax and never double dips. The process was very quick and as comfortable as having a wax can get. My favorite part is that instead of using the strip wax at the end that most salons use (very painful!), Jamuna threaded the spares. I was done in 10 minutes, cleaned, powdered, and given a good dose of hydrocortisone to ease any discomfort. My friend was right- this was one of the most painless (in all contexts) waxes I’ve ever gotten.
Afterward, I went in for my facial with Promila, who was absolutely stellar! My nose still feels sooo soft and smooth. I opted for Shobha’s signature facial with Natural Peel- a process that took about an hour and a half and left me completely blotch-less at the end. (I was truly amazed by the lack of pink on my face after and thrilled because I was supposed to meet up with a boy for drinks!) The Shobha facial is a “full service†facial that cleans, moisturizes, revitalizes, tones, massages, and de-congests your skin. This luxurious facial starts with a deep clean, followed by a very moisturizing massage, steam treatment and this “cool pack†that seriously completely smoothed out my skin. The Shobha facial includes targeted deep pore extraction, which removes the last of the blackheads. While this process is generally painful, I cannot not have it done and the Shobha experience was rather short, as the facial had already removed the majority of impurities. I opted for the Natural Peel add on, which is a Shobha secret recipe that removes layers of dead skin. It’s a natural, mild and safe formula, but can burn a little bit if you’re skin is still reacting from the extractions; but it’s definitely worth it and the results are amazing! My previous facial was actually a disappointing experience, so I was very happy that Shobha was able to restore my confidence in facials.
The service at Shobha was impeccable, the specialists were all extremely skilled, professional and friendly, and the space was very warm and inviting. I absolutely loved it and intend to recommend it to my friends (and TDO readers!) as well as return myself in the near future. Shohba is currently running a fall facial deal where customers can enjoy 25% off facials with the spa’s new specialists (all very highly trained).
Shohba is open in 3 locations in NYC: Soho (their flagship), Madison Avenue (waxing and threading services only) and Columbus Circle (the most convenient location for popping in after work). Love it there! Definitely go check it out.

Sephora is having their friends and family right now, and I’ve deleted the email…any idea the promo code? I am planning on stocking up and would love to save 20%!
What all hair permanent hair removal systems nowadays have in common: the treatment hurts as much as – lets say – treatment with an electric depilator. But the good thing is: every treatment it gets better and at the end there is no hair left :-)

I go to Jamuna every month for a wax…she is the best – fast, efficient, and friendly. :) Glad you had a good experience…
