Stories for the year: 2007

Accessories, JewelrySparkle Stone

I don’t know any girl who wouldn’t want to add a little sparkle to her wrist for a fabulous holiday bash. Perhaps you can coerce a loved one in your life to gift you with this spectacular Crystal Stone Cuff by Kenneth Jay Lane ($450). The jeweled cuff is adorned with Swarovski crystals, which are set onto a gunmetal cuff. A spring hinge ensures that it won’t fall off your wrist between the dancing and champagne.

P.S. We will be off on Dec. 25, but will see you back here on the 26th. Happy holidays!

FashionEasy Entertaining

If you are entertaining at your house this year, you’ll want to wear something very comfortable. After all, you’ll be accommodating guests, putting the finishing touches on dishes, serving wine and more. Try this Bianca Keyhole Tank by Ella Moss ($95 at Intermix). The racer back and droopy peephole in the front make an interesting combination, while the swing of the top will keep you feeling relaxed. Simply throw this on with a slim pair of black pants or pencil skirt 5 minutes before your guests are due to arrive – and voila! You’ll be looking chic and put together. It’s no fuss, no muss dressing.

GiveawaysKatharine Sise Giveaway Winner

Many thanks to everyone who entered the Katharine Sise jewelry giveaway! It was so much fun reading everyone’s comments, and we were so happy to be hosting a giveaway with one of our favorite accessories designers. Without further adieu…the winner of the necklace is Nikki, who said “This is perfect! I usually wear silver, so I don’t own a lot of gold, and this would be the most beautiful gold to start with!” Please send us an email with your name and address within the next 72 hours. Didn’t win? Visit katharisesise.com and email Katharine to order the piece. xo, The TDO Team

Beauty, SkincareEye Need Plantidote

During the last couple weeks, the dark circles under my eyes could be called tragic. (At least to me!) The holiday season has not been kind to them. That’s why I’m very thankful for the Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Serum by Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins.

This serum is amazing. I dab it on at night before bed and again in the morning. By the time I roll into work, I look rested — even if I tossed and turned all night. It goes on super light, yet feels moisturizing. This serum contains a Mega-Mushroom blend composed of hypsizygus ulmarius, cordyceps, yeast extract, reishi mushrooms, ginger, turmeric, holy basil and grapeseed extract. These ingredients help to reduce puffiness, relieve dark circles and in general, calm the delicate skin. The scent is a little “crunchy,” but you will hardly notice it since very little is needed for application. Plus, the results are totally worth it.

Don’t believe me? Read the reviews on TotalBeauty.com. And if you want to pick it up…it’s available at Origins stores and online for $42.50.

New York, Spas & SalonsShane at Chris Chase

This is the story of a Chelsea salon. In particular, this is the story of a certain stylist at this Chelsea salon.

The salon is called Chris Chase, opened by the same people from the extremely well regarded (but now closed) Robert Kree. It is located in New York’s Highline neighborhood on 21st and 9th, and though a new establishment, is already extremely well-regarded in the fashion and beauty industry (they exclusively style Calvin Klein and Prada events). The stylist is named Shane Michael, the creative cut and color guru that made my experience at Chris Chase one that I would highly recommend to everyone. READ MORE

Accessories, ShoesCheap Thrills

When it comes to inexpensive shoes, I have a soft spot in my heart for Sam Edelman. They just know how to produce cute shoes that look 10x more than they cost. I’m currently coveting the Bunnie Suede Flats, which are simply black suede offset by gold piping and heel. A thick patent leather band across the toe adds subtle contrast and sleekness to this shoe. I think that these look designer-y, yet versatile enough for whatever the day (and night) might hold. Get yours at Tobi.com for $99. AccessoriesHook It Up

We all know that your most beloved handbag could be crawling with germs, especially if you’ve left it on a kitchen counter, restaurant floor, etc. Actually, you probably don’t want to think about it anymore, except for taking a disinfectant wipe and running it across your bag. We all should use purse hooks – and we finally found one that we’re happy to carry around.

The ClipChic by Stylagio ($19.95) was the solution that French-born Anne Rosemberg developed. With her weakness for designer accessories (and the desire to keep them in the fabulous condition!), she searched for chic purse hook, but couldn’t find one. So, she decided to create one!

The ClipChic utilizes a lightweight hook that wraps around a small circular disc. The tiny silver hook can hold up an impressive 9 lbs. (and really, if you’re carrying that much stuff…you might be more concerned about seeing a chiropractor). It’s ready to be used in 4 easy steps: unfold, rotate, place and hang. It’s available in a variety of fun hues like Blueberry Mist and Sweet Raspberry, but we favor Savory Sage for a nice pop of color. Boxed in a sleek box and a soft velvet bag, the ClipChic is easy to keep in your purse on a permanent basis and pull out whenever you might need it!

Paper GoodsBest Of Thank You Notes: Part 2

Here’s Part 2 of our guide for the absolute best thank you notes. We’re focusing on 6 brands that will say “Thanks!” in a fabulously fun way:

Linda & Harriett: I bookmarked the Linda & Harriett website for months as a source of fun design – and when I finally saw their paper goods in person, they were that much more impressive. What I love about them is that none of their goods are pretentious — which is ideal for thank you notes. Whether they’re playful or a little more serious, “they all have character” as designer Liz Libré says. The quality of each piece is also superb; each card is letterpressed in Maine on 110 lb. cover weight paper (very thick!). Plus, the prices are quite reasonable, averaging $18 for a set of eight, including a choice in envelope color. My picks? The “Hedgy” notecard is incredibly cute and really, just impossible to resist going “Awww!” over. READ MORE

AccessoriesBeaning For Me

I am absolutely obsessed with Jalda‘s Pebbled Leather Bean Tote in Platinum ($470). It’s my next must-have item. I’ve put myself on the waiting list, in fact. This bag features nickel hardware that looks ultra elegant when paired with the metallic finish of the super soft Italian leather. It has an invisible (but strong) magnetic closure and has several pockets in the interior, along with a key ring and shoulder strap. What I love about this bag is that it converts easily from a handheld tote to a messenger bag – or even an oversized clutch (just fold it over)! It’s ideal for those days when you have an event right after work, since this Jalda bag will carry over glamorously into the night. It’s truly beautiful (even better in person)!

However, if you’re not a fan of the metallic finish or the pebbled leather, this bag also comes in a variety of other leathers and hues.

Have you decided that you want this, too? Find a store near you, or call Jalda directly at (310) 203-0888.
