On Monday, I headed down to The Altman Building to check out the makeup and hair for Charlotte Ronson’s FA08 show. Starting with the wonderful Stila Cosmetics team, the concept for the show was created by the talented Beauty.com celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow. Backstage, I chatted with makeup artist Ryan Cox about the unique look that was being produced for the show.
First, Ryan began with the face, which was left very natural – only tinted moisturizer and concealer where needed. The finish was satiny and fresh, which Ryan noted would be a trend for the fall/winter season. (We also noticed that many makeup artists showed partiality to this finish at many of the shows we attended as well.) Next, the eyes were given a matte finish with the Sheer Pressed Powder in Fair. Lids were given color with the Kajal Eye Liner in Smokey Quartz, applied with the #15 brush on the corners. Then, Ryan used the #4 brush with the Black Smudge Pot under the lash line; he also used it to draw on bottom lashes to create a sexy 40’s inspired look. Lashes were emphasized with the Major Lash Mascara (heavier application on the bottom).
Cheeks were completely omitted, as the focus was on the eyes. (And really, they were truly spectacular and fun.) However, I loved that they added freckles to each model’s face with the Bronze Smudge Pot by simply dotting it sparingly across their face. The result and look was really innovative and honestly, unlike any other look I’ve seen at shows thus far. Lastly, he utilized Topaz Kajal or Melon Glaze Lip Liners, in conjunction with the Convertible Color in Fuschia. The effect sheered out the lip, creating a just bitten look. Ryan emphasized that the lip should look more creamy, than shiny – another trend to look out for this season.
