New York Fashion Week FA08: Zac Posen

Zac Posen’s show was definitely one of the more dramatic of Fashion Week, but once you got past the “Minnie Mouse goes Manhattan” feel, you could see that there actually was some inspiration hidden in the madness.

Posen’s fall line was definitely a nod to the girly girl in all of us – loads of frilly, poufy skirts, pleats, beads, sequins, and all other things feminine and sweet. But he reined it in just enough by adding a touch of entertainment with the pompoms-turned-mouse-ears and a touch of sexy with super-sheer dresses revealing sequined garter belts. All in all, it was a fun, cohesive show…though it took me some time to realize it.

Scoot right past that sheath dress sequined with a tromp l’oeil tuxedo and beyond the crazy feather cape. Stop dead in your tracks when you spy that gorgeous, filmy black evening gown with the incredibly ruching and that lovely sweetheart neckline. Ditto that stunning red and grey strapless gown that’s Posen’s nod to the classic princess ballgown. And don’t miss that beautiful, bright canary yellow miniskirt detailed with oversized jewels. Oh, and did you catch those orange tights…again?!

In all, this isn’t a show you’ll necessarily take word for word…but there are more ideas and inspiration here than almost any other single show this week.
