For Spring 2008, in honor of their 40th anniversary of the Mode Collections, shu uemura has launched a collection called Rebirth. This collection celebrates the “color, energy and gentle ambience of the fresh spring season and translates these elements through vibrant colors to highlight the purity, strength and energy inside us.” By now, you’ve read the reviews (see Bit by the Beauty Bug, Makeup Loves Me and The Daily Cookie), so I’m just going to highlight my personal favorites from the collection.
First up is the Glow On Blush in Harmonious Pink. First, I have to tell you that the packaging is a perfect match for our design aesthetic. The blush has a lovely motif, “inspired by an abstract drawing made by Mr. Uemura of flowers and greens in nature” – all of which is housed in a clean, clear compact. The blush itself is soft, flattering and simply enhances your skin by imparting a glow.
Now, it’s been awhile I’ve worn a purple shadow. (The last time I tried it, I thought it looked fabulous…until one of my guy friends asked me, “Did your eye get bruised?” – so I’ve been a little fearful ever since.) But shu uemura’s Pressed Eyeshadow in Spring Breeze provided a wonderfully sheer, light wash that’s still noticeable, but won’t distract anyone if you’re wearing it to work. If you want to make your shadow pop, simply build intensity by layering it.
I saved the best for last. In my opinion, the most unique product from this collection is the Tri-Color Eye Pencil ($25), offered in Aqua Flow and Energy Flow. This product is a stackable, connectable 3-in-1 product. You can use this as a eye pencil, shadow base or simply layered to create a fun, bright eye. The texture is very creamy and soft, so it makes application very smooth and easy. I tried it in Aqua Flow and I’ll be honest — I was intimidated by the bright blue and green hues. But what looks intimidating in the tube goes on beautifully. I like pairing the gray with the bright blue hue, which tones down the shadow. I’ve also tried lining my eyes with the bright green and matching it up with a golden hue. Surprisingly, it goes on sheer, so you get some oomph without getting too overwhelming. It’s a combination that is normal out of my comfort zone, but I’m loving it. If you need any suggestions, shu uemura makeup agrtists have put together several looks that incorporate this product.
