Stylin’ in the Rain

There’s nothing that brightens up a gloomy, rainy day than splashing around in a cute pair of rainboots. I feel like Chicago was pretty rainy this spring, so I wanted to find the perfect pair of stylish wellies to take on puddles with. My only quandary was finding a pair that wasn’t boring, and on the other hand, wasn’t so bright and corny as to make me look like a little girl. Here are my favorite pairs that I came across during my search.
The Burberry check rainboot ($170) is a classic choice. I love the print of course, and it’s work-appropriate too. The shaft of the boot is on the smaller side though, so ladies with more muscular calves may not find these boots very comfortable. My calves are a bit muscular and I didn’t find these to be too tight, though I couldn’t tuck jeans into them. I found another print that I loved on these Pucci boots ($139). It’s a bright print, but the pattern is oh so pretty. The print has that signature look of sophistication that all Pucci designs have, so these boots are definitely a better choice for you if you find the Burberry check print to be too conservative.
I love nautical prints on rainboots, so I found these whale-print boots ($29.99) from Urban Outfitters to be super charming. I also liked these cute anchor-print J.Crew two-tone wellies ($52). These prints have a whimsical feel and look adorable without looking childish. Both Urban Outfitters and J.Crew have an affordable selection of rainboots in prints and solid colors that are worth taking a good look at.
And what pair did I end up choosing? Well, I liked the balance of style and function that I found in these Hunter wellies in red ($98). I love the bright color, the tallness of the boot, and they have enough room to tuck a pair of skinny jeans in. I’ve gotten compliments on these on many a rainy day here, and am really happy with my purchase. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that these were also memorably worn by Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Hunter also makes a version of these boots called the Huntress that has a 16 1/2″ circumference shaft, to fit those with larger calves. Perfection for everyone! Hunter boots do run large though, so I recommend sizing a full size down.
So, these were my finds… How about you? If you’ve found a fantastic pair of wellies, let us know in the comments :)
