C.O. Bigelow Turns 170!
America’s oldest apothecary, C. O. Bigelow, turns 170 years old this year! To celebrate, they threw a party at their Water Tower Place store in Chicago, and I stopped in to partake in all the fun activities–as well as check out all the beauty goodies, of course. The event featured delicious hors d’oeuvres by the famed chef of Spiaggia, Tony Mantuano. Chef Mantuano was incredibly gracious and signed a copy of his new book, Wine Bar Food, for me! I can’t wait to try preparing the yummy recipes. Megan Nicolay, author of Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt, was also on hand to help tons of shoppers transform ordinary C.O. Bigelow shirts into unique tops. I cut mine and laced a ribbon through one of the sleeves for a super cute look. I also met Ian Ginsberg, proprietor of the original apothecary in NYC, who took the time show me how to make a lime-flavored Mentha lip gloss. It tasted like a mojito, which is just perfect for the summer! I had such a fun time at C.O. Bigelow, and I know all the other shoppers there did, too.
C.O. Bigelow’s Mentha lip glosses are actually the top selling lip glosses in the country, and it’s not hard to see why. Each one is infused with 2% peppermint oil, which keeps your lips cool and fresh. And now, you can also add a hint of color with the new Mentha Lip Tints. They come in a variety of colors that enhance your lips and keep them moisturized. My favorite is the Bare Mint shade, pictured left. It’s a lovely, subtle nude with a pretty shine that is perfect for everyday use. Each Lip Tint is only $7.50 and you can find them at bigelowchemists.com or your nearest C.O. Bigelow apothecary!
