Beauty, MakeupTDO Beauty Spotlight: Hourglass Cosmetics

Hailing from LA, Hourglass Cosmetics is one of the newest makeup lines to hit luxury cosmetic counters. In an already saturated market, it’s difficult to stand out without being really good and luckily, Hourglass Cosmetics is just that. It already has a celeb following including A-Listers such as Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie, who apparently buys this by the cartful. What stood out to me about this line was the extremely high quality of its products and the beautiful wearability of its colors. In addition, Hourglass packs in skincare goodies into all its products, creating a truly smart makeup that combines substance with style.

ABOUT THE BRAND: Hourglass Cosmetics is created by Carisa Janes, a beauty veteran who in her past worked with lines such as Urban Decay, Body & Soul and Sugar Cosmetics. She created Hourglass to be an uber-luxurious line from ingredients to performance to packaging. This line launched in May 2008 at Barney’s New York and Sephora stores nationwide.

STAND OUT PRODUCTS: My favorite product in this line is the Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss. This product has a light, watery texture but stays on for hours and hours. Even as it wears off, the gloss leave a nice and moisturizing sheen to your lips so you never get that dry stain that some glosses leave you with. My go-to-color is a Sephora exclusive shade called “Imagine” – a pretty nude with gold sparkles. This gloss does not leave your lips looking plastic either — and don’t worry, the sparkles come out looking like an opalescent veil of color, not glitter. I’ve cut my reapplying rate into half, which is good because I love this tube so much that I want it to last as long as it can!

To complement the gloss, I also use the Hourglass Trace Lip Liner in Bare. This mechanical lip pencil never needs sharpening, and I like that it is a thicker, blunt tip. The texture is more soft and crayon-like, which I appreciate because my lip area is usually pretty sensitive. Bare is the perfect shade to fake natural looking, fuller lips. I use it under almost all my lip colors. The other half of the lip pencil is a brush. Unlike some other brands, Hourglass didn’t skimp on the built in brushes. The lip brush is large and full, making it that much easier to create perfect lips.

OTHER GREAT FINDS: Hourglass also puts out 3 colorlink Palettes, each with 6 eyeshadows and 2 blushes so you can basically carry your entire makeup needs in one chic packet. The one that I’ve been using this summer is the Island Palette, the perfect set to give you a natural, sun kissed glow. Texture is great, staying power is amazing and the color works so well with my skin tone. In fact, almost all of Hourglass’ colors are designed to work with a variety of skin tones. During the day, use the Island Palette’s range of beiges and pinks to create a pretty look and for evening, dip into their golds, bronzes and browns.

RECOMMENDED FOR: Hourglass is best for the elegant lady who like her makeup ultra luxe. The colors make you look naturally gorgeous – just enhanced. It is the anti-MAC. Instead of pumping out new trends every season, the designers behind Hourglass know what’s universally flattering. I would recommend this brand as wedding makeup actually – hassle free, premium products that make you look and feel absolutely gorgeous.

Hourglass has been one of my faves for years. Their Veil Liquid Foundation makeup enjoys a cult following and really is one of the best out there. Great piece, and that palette is amazing! xo

Mac is better, cheaper and also can be luxuary too. if you really need the airbrush look or flawless skin, so, you just don’t have to put any make up on your face at all.

Mac is also luxuary, no doubt about it. It’s just a bit more trendy, and really, there are consumers for both brands :) We like both and think they’re both great!

Anyway, I decided to order the oasis eyeshadow palette cuz the packaging is so classic and its the most beautiful, mystery cosmetic packaging that I ‘ve ever seen. I feel really nice with the picture of the bronze forest under the dull sky. I don’t know why but it reminded me of my vacation in morocco. the oasis pastels eyeshadow also really touch!! I’d expected that I could makeup my eyes in the modern-arab style.
