Valery Joseph Salons

A few weeks ago before the Louis Vuitton Cruise collection event, I stopped by Valery Joseph on the Upper East side to get my hair and makeup done. I was pretty impressed since I only had an hour allocated for both, and they managed to beautify me in no time!
Valery Joseph has 2 locations on Madison – one on 79th and one on 68th. I went to the 79th St. location on a Thursday afternoon around 5pm. The place was absolutely happening! It seems like a popular salon among the UES crowd for blowouts, as that is what the majority of people seemed to be getting done. I didn’t have very much time, but I would recommend setting aside a few hours as it can get quite busy in there! To help make you more comfortable though, Valery Joseph has lots of drinks on hand – including cappuccino. Yum!
As busy as things were, I was attended to promptly and then waited only 5 minutes or so between services. Patricia did my curls for me, based off a picture that I brought with me. As I cannot work a curling iron to save my life, I was duly impressed with her work. Unlike most of the time when I get my hair curled, Patricia barely used any hairspray during the procedure. She simply sprayed a little on when to set my curls, which I really appreciated since my hair naturally has a tendency to get greasy. Curls stayed with me through 5 parties, and I was even able to go the next day without washing my hair.
I got my makeup done by their resident makeup artist, Shiko. He is great for event and special occasion makeup because he can replicate anything makeup look you bring in. I usually go pretty light on the makeup so at first I felt that I was too “made up,” but it sure did photograph well! It was my first time trying contouring, which made my cheekbones look more defined and gave my face more dimension. Shiko was also did a beautiful beige-smoky eye, which I tend to have a lot of trouble doing on my own. Valery Joseph’s makeup stash ranges from MAC to Chanel and they have ever color imaginable (who knew that my eye makeup would take about 10 shades of the same color?). Anyway, my eyes are closed in this picture (not intentionally) and in this case, I think, gives a good look at the final hair and makeup results.
Valery Joseph Salon is now also open in the Bridgehampton – so all you lucky gals frequenting the beach this summer will have a great new salon to make you pretty for any party. Call 631-537-8967 for more information.
