Brightening by bluemercury

We’ve raved about bluemercury before–it’s an amazing spa and apothecary space that we adore. I recently stopped in at the Lincoln Park location in Chicago to try the new Brightening Facial, which aims to tighten and brighten your skin. A great spa has clean facilities, knowledgeable and nice estheticians, a comfortable atmosphere, and effective treatments. bluemercury has all of these, in spades. I felt completely at ease and the facial itself was actually so relaxing. bluemercury cares about making you feel comfortable, and the estheticians are skilled and professional. The Brightening Facial itself was perfect, consisting of bluemercury’s modern facial, a peel, and finally a Vitamin C treatment.
The store and spa at the Chicago bluemercury is impeccably clean and bright. My esthetician at the Chicago bluemercury was Betsy, who was really sweet and knowledgeable. She let me know the exact steps she would be taking with my skin, and took time to learn more about my skin to personalize my facial. The cleansing, exfoliating, and extractions went swimmingly. Betsy chose a lactic peel to use in my facial because of my dry/sensitive skin, since it is gentler than most peels. Then I had a Vitamin C mask and some oxygen, which felt very soothing. All the products used in the Brightening Facial are available in the retail store, which carries a great selection of beauty lines.
Afterwards, my face felt so soft and looked glowing. I almost couldn’t stop touching my face, and I was so relaxed that I probably could’ve taken a nap right then and there. The bluemercury in Chicago is now going to be my go-to spa (I want to try their brow styling services next!). It’s a great concept, except for the fact that it’s run by a heartless phoney. She claims the company is progessing in a spiraling economy, yet she recently closed two stores. Both stores were given only a few days notice and the employees only given one weeks severance pay. She doesn’t pay Holiday pay or Time and a half, and is uncaring to employees who have health issues, such as dealing with breast cancer. All she cares about is making a buck for herself, and that shows in the number of employees that have left the company both at the retail and the corporate levels.
Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere that shows compassion for the people who make the company run…the store employees, not the wicked queen who sits on her throne and collects the profits and squirrels them away for herself.
You can get the same products at Sephora or Nordstroms. It’s nothing special at Bluemercury.
