Most brides want the dress and accessories to be the perfect marriage of her personal style with this special day. And even though wedding season is technically over, I still know a bunch of brides-to-be getting married this upcoming fall and winter…so I’m forging ahead and telling you about this fabulous accessories line called Twigs & Honey.
Designer Myra Callan creates gorgeous concoctions that are ideal for brides who desire a bit of drama and glamour on their big day. Fusing her love for vintage femininity and nature, you’ll love the beautifully constructed pieces – whether it’s a hair piece or a necklace. “Much of my inspiration comes from a love for the natural environment and a combination of both modern and vintage styles. I am an environmental scientist/geographer by trade and when you study something you are passionate about for so long, it inevitably influences your personal style,” notes Myra. “I love to make my pieces more “natural” in form and balance, which means lovely, yet not completely perfect.”
For each of her creations, she utilizes materials such as silks, tulle, alencon lace, organza, feathers, and various vintage millinery supplies. “The silks tend to have the best colors and you can’t fake the quality and feel,” says Myra. Each piece is begins with hand-cutting fabrics (which may be prepped and treated before cutting) and sewing petals together to form loose flowers. Feathers are often hand-stripped, shaped, and trimmed before incorporating them into a design. Each piece is shaped by free-hand, whether it’s custom or ready-made. If you’re making a custom order, you can browse through the galleries to see past pieces for ideas and inspiration for what you’d like. Editor’s Note: The photos above show off some of Myra’s favorite creations.
I really think that a hair piece can be a lovely alternative to the traditional veil. A friend of mine who recently got married, wore a floral hair piece with a tiny birdcage veil – and it accented her gown perfectly. In fact, if she went with a traditional veil, or with no veil at all…the effect would not have been as stunning.
For those of you who aren’t walking down the aisle, you can still order Twigs & Honey pieces for everyday wear! I think a lovely headband or floral comb would be a fabulous way to easily spruce up for a cocktail party, especially if you’re heading straight from work. Myra suggests ordering a simpler piece to wear to dinner parties, baby showers, the theater…or just because you feel like it!
Prices range typically from $40-$70 (though it really depends on the complexity of the design desired). To contact Myra with any questions or to make an order, visit the Twigs & Honey’s website for a list of retailers or head over to their Etsy shop.
