Backstage Beauty SP09: Abaeté

With a collection inspired by “elements of underpinnings,” the makeup and hair for Abaeté (pronounced A-BUY-A-TAY, in case you were wondering) hinted at the “naughty, but nice” girl. Abaeté is known for a feminine look, and to counteract that girliness, both the makeup and hair played up the “naughty” side.
Edward Cruz or Redken, was the visionaire behind the hair, which he explained was a “strong, severe” look. Hair was flatironed by section and swept into a tightly knit bun, and finished off with a small hairnet, to counteract any flyaways; think “naughty headmistress.” Redken Electric Wax #11, a gold slightly shimmering wax, was then used to slick back the hair which also gave it a slight sheen — it glittered! He finished off the look with sprays of Redken Workforce 11 and Redken Finish 12, to keep everything in place but still pliable.
The naughty continued with the makeup done by Stila with makeup lead Shawn Peltier, and again, it was all about the eyes – a trend we have been seeing a lot backstage. No bad girl can go without dark eyes, and the eyes were the main focus of this look thanks to a new Stila smudgepot in black with flecks of gold 24k—polished goth with just a faint sparkle! TDO readers take note: this shade is to be released in Spring 2009 (color: Kalakoo). The smudgepot was used all over the entire lid to give it a “graphic” look and finished off with a strong coat of Black Multi-Effect Mascara.
To counteract the darkness of the eyes, skin was kept dewy and fresh with Stila’s Illuminating Foundation. Lips were low key, but natural with a Tahitian Vanilla gloss and Shine Lip Polish.
