Backstage Beauty SP09: Charlotte Ronson

Sadly at my first Fashion Week show, I missed seeing one of my favorite US Weekly stories: Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, who were practically guaranteed to be attending since Lindsay’s favorite new gal pal is her sister—bummer.  On a positive note: while stalking outside of the tent, I saw a real life sighting (who I normally only get to see via Dior ads) of Coco Rocha – adorable! (P.S. how awesome is her name, the only one better might be Chanel Iman).  Anyway, moving on…

Charlotte Ronson’s clothes always have a music/rock and roll edge (which isn’t surprising considering both her famous siblings are world renowned DJs), and the makeup for SP09 was no different.  Makeup was done by Tina Turnbow of Beauty.com, and described as “80’s grunge and 90’s pop.” Emphasis was on the eyes with a dark matte olive green shadow called Green Machine, followed by the Emphas’eyes High Definition Eye Pencil – super slim and super high definition by the way – in Chocolate.  The eyes were finished off with a thick coating of Lash Hugger Eco-Friendly Natural Mascara and a strong “Madonna” brow.  Think rocker Seattle garage band, but in a glam way.

Skin was kept matte with the Erase 4-in-1 concealer and a dusting of Provacateur Pressed Mineral Powder SPF8.  Keeping in line with the Rock look, Tina gave models a strong contoured cheek, using a bronzer (not blush) and finished off the lips in a 24/7 Lip Sheer in a deep rose shade called Tea Time.

You’ll notice that apart from the eyes, this is not a makeup-heavy look. Tina Turnbow explained that she likes to keep makeup minimal, so it looks like it is a “part of the person, rather than wearing the person.”  This was reinforced by the “Overall Look” description posted by the door backstage, which emphasized that the overall look was “understated sexy” for a “confident girl that doesn’t need to overdo it.”

All products used in the Charlotte Ronson show were from Tarte ‘Health Couture,’ a new concept in which all the products are 1/2 “skinvigorating” (meaning good for you) and 1/2 eco-friendly (all the packaging can be re-used.)   Candace Craig, Tarte’s PR and Marketing Manager, showed us a cute former eyeshadow palette, which she recycled to become a business card case!  Be on the lookout for a new Tarte palette coming out this Fall using straw.
