Joomi NYC

I recently discovered this gorgeous line of jewelry and hair accessories called Joomi NYC. Launched in January 2008 by designer Joomi Lim and her partner Xavier Ricolfi, this is one stunning collection of accessories that you will want to buy all at once.

The designer is deeply influenced by all things French, and it is reflected in her line. “I love shopping in vintage shops in Paris,” says Joomi. “I love mixing old and modern elements…a mix of different material and colors.” And those materials she’s talking about? The finest fabrics and leather, as well as whimsical trims such as french laces, japanese ribbons, feathers, brass bangles, chains, and Swarovski crystals. It’s all quite luxurious!

I’m utterly obsessed with the Pretty Bijoux line. It’s full of both feminine and edgy pieces. “My Pretty Bijoux was inspired by old vintage brooches, but I wanted to be different and modern. I designed it with different sizes and shapes of crystals in random and uneven way. This definitely brought new and modern feel to the old look…and that makes it fun and not so serious,” explains Joomi.

Joomi likes the big cocktail rings and glam chokers from this collection (pictured above, far right and far left), but my personal favorite is the Elastic Headband with Mini Pretty Bijoux.  I adore the navy band with its slightly ruffled edge, while being set off by pretty contrasting jewelry.  It’s simple, yet totally glamorous…I can see why it’s the line’s #1 bestseller. So prim and pretty, I feel like Blair Waldorf needs to wear this on Gossip Girl, stat!  (Ahem…and Ms. Waldorf actually recently wore the Green & White Flower headband on Monday’s episode.)

The designer also adores her collection of tiny hats, adorned with jewels and a small veil, called Bibi Hats. “It’s something I would wear at night with some fun outfit,” says Joomi. I love the vintage feel that they have. But by no means does that mean they look like period pieces or costume-y. In fact, the designs are so playful that they’re definitely meant for modern times.

Prices range from $25 to $395 for hair accessories, and $25 to $595 for jewelry. Available at various boutiques including Henri Bendel, Fred Segal, Otte and Takishimaya. For a full list of retailers, visit www.joominyc.com.

P.S. Fashionistas heading to Fashion Week…pick up one of these pieces to wear to a show! We’ll see you there!
