New York Fashion Week SP09: Tracy Reese

Literally, Carolyn (aka perfumed) and I are the worst celebrity spotters ever. We have a whole listing of celebrities (including Chase Crawford, sniff) that we have missed sighting either due to us just not paying attention, unluckiness…who knows, although it’s not to say we haven’t seen anyone (highlights thus far have included Nigel Barker – hot, and Eva Longoria Parker – so cute).
As usual, at the Tracy Reese show, we missed the celebrities front row again (rumored: Ana Ortiz of Ugly Betty, Brandy, and Andre Leon Talley), but I didn’t even care because this was one show where I actually wanted all of the 54 looks that were showcased.
If asked to describe my own style, among my key words would be feminine and romantic and that was exactly what was served up at Tracy Reese, along with a strong dosage of gardens and spring (literally). The inspiration for this collection was nature, with a strong emphasis on “modern romance and strong femininity,” with what I thought was a strong Japanese kimono influence as well, thanks to the use of heavy brocades, detailed embroideries and flower appliqués, and sherbet colored pastels.
Silhouettes for the collection ranged from tapered satin pants to loose dropwaist dresses and some beautiful tulip skirts that were cut away to resemble flower petals–these skirts were my favorite (see the pic for a full dress). My focus was drawn to the detailing of the clothes, since many of the looks featured either garden/nature prints, ‘petal’ draping, and either flowers or onyx appliqués. The looks were all light and airy and a particular highlight of the collection for me was the “Rosewood melange linen bouquet trench” which was a gorgeous ruffled trench that had beautiful flower detailing all over it – a great “housecoat” in a way that you could swing over anything and be instantly put together.
Contributing to the romantic look, were the stunning chandelier earrings worn by the models. Most of the earrings were made out of clear onyx, and strung together with delicate filigree – according to the program notes, the earrings were made by Gerard Yosca for Tracy Reese, and a quick Google search revealed no retailers! But fear not, TDO readers, I am on the case since I think those earrings are a must-have.
Carolyn and I were also mesmerized by the music from the show; we weren’t sure who sang the songs from it, but it is a must-download. I’m emailing the Music Coordinator for the show as we speak, so I can figure out which artist to download. The music was a heady mix of symphonic beats and melodic vocals – just the sort of music you would want to listen to if you were pining away in a garden/forest somewhere thinking deep thoughts or…the kind of music you would hear while shopping at Anthropologie.

Hi ! I love how you write and what you’ve scoped out! My new business is debuting soon, and am looking for talent to help me with content, images, etc. for my website. What are your thoughts about this, and do you know others equally qualified in the fashion illustration/style/beauty areas?
PS I was at the Tracy Reese show too and mesmerized by that musical score she selected…

I loved watching the Tracey Reese line on Full Frontal Fashion. There was not one design that I did not love. Her style is feminine and sophisticated. I also loved the music as well. I too would love to know who sang the majority of the songs.

I was at the show too (Bijou Phillips and Emma Roberts were there as well :)
Anyway, I 100 PERCENT agree with you about the music and have been searching for it. That is how I came upon your great site! If you hear from the music coordinator PLEASE let me know! I have had it running on my computer all day!
