A Touch of Plum
Recently, I’ve been obsessed with everything purple. Dark purple nails for fall, the color of my room in the new apartment I moved into, the fantastic dress worn by Lily Van der Woodsen on Monday night’s Gossip Girl…and I’ve taken my purple fascination to my eyelashes with Benefit’s new BADgal mascara in plum.
For those of you scared of colored mascara, lest you end up looking like you are going to a rave, have no fear. The color of this mascara is actually very subtle. The color is not shock-me purple, but rather a subdued reddish-purple color that gives your eyelashes just a flash of color.
In fact, if you apply this mascara under normal lighting, you may not notice the color at all initially and think that you are applying just regular black mascara. Once you venture outside or are in better lighting, you can see really see the color differentiation. The lovely plum shade really frames your eyes, especially for those of you with blue or green eyes.
My recommendation is to apply a few coats (I suggest 3) to truly see the effect of the color, as the formula for BADgal mascaras is a little less thick than I am accustomed to. The formula is long wear, no smudge, and of course, no clumps, so it’s perfect for everyday use. Best of all, the color is so subtle that you can wear it to the office with no problems. You can purchase it via BenefitCosmetics.com.

it is a very subtle shade…you can honestly mistake it for being just regular black under normal lighting. but once you go outside, under direct sunlight, you can see the reddish-purple color. the same is applicable to their badgal blue mascara too! you don’t see the blue of the mascara until you are in the sun.
I just ordered this online from Sephora, hasn’t arrived yet though…
Excited to try and it glad to see your tips!

Wow plum is everywhere, even in mascara. Though coloured mascara has been around for a long time, I don’t think it has taken off in a big way. I’ve seen yellow and pink….and you’re right, these are like for a rave or a costume party.
But am surprised at how subtle this shade is…It’s probably very pretty.
