We all have those mornings when we wish we didn’t have that last drink or stay out extra late the night before. It usually shows on your face, and especially around the eyes. What can anyone do to brighten up as a quick fix? Here is Liz Earle’s Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion to the rescue!
Despite the name, I don’t think Eyebright is a lotion at all. It’s a very thin, cool liquid that you can apply to a cotton ball or pad. Just dab it over your closed eyes, and they’ll instantly feel energized and awake. Your eyes will also look brighter and less puffy for the time being, so even though you may not be an early bird, you’ll look like one.
If you ever need some extra R&R, try soaking 2 cotton pads in Eyebright and place them over your eyes for about 10 minutes. It’s relaxing and so soothing–definitely better than using cucumber slices! I think the Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion is a great way to awaken and revitalize your eyes until the rest of your body can catch up. Find out more at lizearle.com.
If you’re like me, you’re a mascara addict. Sephora has introduced a set you’re going to want to check out. The Lash Stash is a sampler set of 10 different travel sized black mascaras that gives you a chance to test out the best-selling mascaras on the market without committing to a full sized (and sometimes, expensive) tube. The kit includes Smashbox Bionic Mascara, Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara, Vincent Longo The Curl Mascara, Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara, Too Faced Lash Injection Pin Point Mascara, Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash Mascara, Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara, DuWop Lash Venom Mascara, Korres Deep Colour Mascara, and Cargo Texas Lash Mascara. Some of these are mascaras that I never would’ve thought of trying, like Lash Venom, but having a tiny tube of it gave me the chance to see it in action (it works great!) and now I’ll be headed back to Sephora to get myself a full sized tube of it. As a bonus, the smaller sizes are great for slipping in your bag for touch ups during the day and for weekend trips. At only $35, it’s a must have for those of you who can’t live without thick, gorgeous lashes.
P.S. Since we’re talking about dramatic eye makeup, if you’re already planning your look for New Year’s Eve, make sure to take a look at Sephora’s Glitter Pots and Eye-Glitter Gel. They’re both quick, easy ways to add shimmer to your eyes that are perfect for a holiday party. (I especially like the Eye-Glitter gel because I’m a klutz and tend to get loose glitter all over my face!) Available in shades including silver and gold, they’ll keep you sparkling long after the ball drops!
Amazing Grace is my favorite scent from Philosophy. I love how gently sweet it is, and all the various body butters and lotions that Philosophy offers with this scent are just heavenly. On me, Amazing Grace is one of those soft scents that linger on all day. I was really happy when Philosophy came out with the Amazing Grace Perfumed Buffing Wash, which is now another Amazing Grace product that I can’t live without!
The Buffing Wash is a perfect addition to any shower. Why? Well, it cleanses while gently scrubbing away. I think it exfoliates really well without being harsh on my already sensitive skin. And of course, it smells so lovely! I can just lightly smell the soft scent even hours after I’m out of the shower, which is always nice. It comes in a large 16 oz. bottle and lasts for a good long time. You can find the Philosophy Amazing Grace Perfumed Buffing Wash for $26 at sephora.com.
Any gal would be excited to receive Laura Mercier’s Touch Up Brush set as a gift this holiday. This set contains the most basic (and useful) of all the tools you need to create a flawless face- and best of all, these mini brushes do full size duty, so you can tote them along wherever you are going. This set consists of a cheek brush, an angled and corner eye brush and a concealer brush. They also come with their own silvery case which instantly double as your makeup bag.
The most versatile brush in the kit is the angled eye brush. I carry this around to work and on trips as my sole eye color brush. The angle of the brush lets you use it for different functions if you turn the brush. Use the full flat angled surface for applying color all over the lid and then simply turn and used the sharp edge to apply color of the corners and the crease.
This makes a great last minute gift or stocking stuffer for $45 at Nordstrom.com.
Editor’s Note: We’re taking off the next couple of days to spend some time with our families. We hope that you have a very warm and happy Thanksgiving.
Copper is my color of choice this holiday season (so far, anyway). I’ve been rocking this glowy look at the office almost every day, and I only have to bring three items with me! This beautiful color is festive, without being too over the top. You can intensify your makeup for a post-work fete, but unlike a fuchsia lip for example, shades of copper create truly versatile looks for holiday cheer at the office and beyond.
Currently stashed in my makeup bag is my one go to product of the moment: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Compact in Copper Diamond. I’m a huge fan of Bobbi’s Bronze Shimmer Compact and didn’t think anything could top that in my makeup bag, but Copper Diamond takes the cake this season. This creates the most flattering glow that makes you look as if you were basking in candle light. I put loads all over my face every morning and it never looks fake. (more…)
Between all of the holiday collections this year, I think Urban Decay is the one that’s impressed me the most so far. The collection is huge and built around sets that contain all the products you’ll need to create glamorous holiday eyes with the bright colors and sparkle that Urban Decay is known for. Any one of them would be perfect as a gift for a makeup loving friend or family member (don’t tell my sister, but I already picked up the one she fell in love with for her!)
It’s a tough call, but my favorite of the holiday offerings is the Book of Shadows Palette ($45). It’s a limited edition eyeshadow palette that opens up to reveal a large mirror that’s framed by 3D pop-ups of Urban Decay graphics like birds, butterflies, and flowers (so different from any other palette I own and SO adorable). Inside the pull out drawer, you’ll find 16 eyeshadows in a wide variety of shades (everything from greens and purples to browns and pinks). There are also two brushes and a travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion to make sure your shadows last as long as the party does. (more…)
Ladies (and gents), it is with mixed feelings that I blog about Hollywhirl.com. Mixed feelings because I am thrilled to talk about it because it is so fabulous, but also selfishly, I don’t want the secret to be out. I want to hoard all the goodies for myself!!
Hollywhirl is that one consignment store that you’ll just love to haunt. The one with the great quality products you’re just dying for at insane prices…and comes in your size and style. A quick look shows that this fabulous green suede $300 value Miu Miu belt is only $59 and this leather Gucci tote for $199! Forget about recession shopping, this is how I want to shop all the time!
If you’re seeing ridiculously low prices – fear not. Hollywhirl has a 100% authenticity guarantee. If their expert eye misses a really good fake and you can prove it (by bringing it to the brand retailer), they will cover all costs to take it back. Yeah, that means your $99 Lagerfeld jacket find is the real deal. Oh yeah, they also ship for free.
I could go on and on, but I’ll let you do your own exploring in this treasure chest. Just promise me you’re not a size 6, size 8 shoe, lover of Chanel handbags and we can share.
Jennifer Behr is famous in the beauty and fashion world for her stunning line of hair accessories. You’ve seen them in practically every magazine and on countess celebrities. What you probably didn’t know is that Jennifer honed her skills stitching custom headpieces at a tiny custom millinery shop in the suburbs of Baltimore after getting her college degree in sculpture and art history. Eventually, Jennifer was recruited to design the hair accessory collection for Frederic Fekkai, who at the time was in partnership with Chanel. Later, when the line was discontinued, a buyer at Bergdorf Goodman told her to start her own line and would buy her pieces sight unseen…and that’s how the Jennifer Behr line began! Jennifer is “inspired by the richness of silks, feathers, stones, pythons and leathers,” in her quest to create elegant and vibrant pieces, which are all produced by hand in her Brooklyn studio. So what is this beauty insider obsessing over this month? Find out behind the cut! (more…)
When I think of the word “appellation,” I think of the French wine and cheese class that my boyfriend treated us to for our anniversary a few years ago. I may have been too preoccupied with the actual wine drinking and cheese eating, but if I had been paying closer attention, I would’ve known that it refers to the region where grapes for a wine were grown. From that, you can probably guess that Appellation skin care products have something to do with grapes and wine; in fact, their products are made with antioxidant grapeseed extract. And adorably, many of their products come in recyclable wine bottle-shaped containers! I love the packaging concept and how it matches with the product.
Despite being a total stranger to grapeseed extract skin care, I was eager to test the Grapeseed Clay Facial Mask. The weather in Chicago the past week has been so cold, and I needed something to soothe and replenish my poor dry, wind-stung face. The first thing I noticed after applying is how cool and comfortable it felt on my skin as it dried. It also applies smoothly and smells very fresh, unlike some other clay masks which may be more clumpy and smell like…well, clay. After about 10 minutes, I rinsed the mask off with warm water, and my skin felt softer and soothed indeed – just what my face needed.
See the entire Appellation collection at appellation.cc. I think you’ll be hard-pressed not to want to snatch up each faux wine bottle, especially when the product inside is so soothing and actually effective on your skin. They just look so charming and would make cute gifts, too!
