I have to admit, I’m a total lip gloss addict. I think I own at least 20 lip glosses, but only a few lipsticks. I just never really thought lipsticks looked nice on me since my lips tend to get dry so easily. I thought lipsticks looked caked and dry on me and stuck to glosses, but little did I know that I was missing out on a world of pigment, coverage, and color. Yes, there are lipsticks out there that all ladies can rock, because they are simply as shiny, smooth, and easy to apply as gloss is. I tried on many, many lipsticks so I could share my favorites in terms of consistency, texture, and pigment. Here are some great lipsticks that any gloss addict can transition to!
It would be remiss of me not to mention Lipstick Queen first. This is a fantastic line to try because of the different levels of pigment and coverage you can get. The Sinner line is more heavily pigmented (90% pigment) and the Saint line is more sheer (10% pigment), but both feel amazingly soft and smooth as you apply. My favorite right now is Medieval, which is also a fantastic red for ladies who might be a little wary of red, like myself at first. It’s practically a universally flattering shade of red that stains your lips with color. It’s never looked cakey or dry on me and always looks so luscious–even more luscious than a gloss would look!
I also like the rich and creamy Bobbi Brown Lip Colors. These lipsticks are definitely full coverage, which may take a bit of time for a lipstick newbie to get used to. The Lip Colors are more matte, but pack a whole lot of pigment. They’re available in a ton of colors to suit every skin tone. My favorite to wear as of late is Heather Mauve, a neutral mauve tone. It goes on smoothly, though Heather Mauve isn’t particularly shiny to begin with, topping off with a bit of gloss makes this a keeper for me.
My favorite lipstick that is sheerer is definitely Lancome’s Color Fever Shine. I first fell in love with it through the limited edition Pixel Pink last summer, and am thoroughly impressed with the line. The Color Fever Shines are pigmented, to be sure, but it comes off as very translucent and sheer. This way it’s actually more versatile than most matte lipsticks–with a dab of concealer on your lips, the colors can look dramatically different. Of course, it’s also very shiny.
And last but certainly not least, I also love the Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks. It’s more of a satiny texture and is undoubtedly luxe, as you would expect from anything Chanel. The colors are definitely more on the lustrous side, and the lipstick is actually pretty moisturizing. Although the Rouge Allures are more pigmented, the texture is still creamy and the application is smooth. On a different note, I also love its clicking packaging.
As an avowed gloss girl, these are the lipsticks that I found incredibly pretty and easy to use. Hope that this helps my fellow gloss addicts to make the transition to lipsticks–you definitely won’t regret it! Do you have any suggestions or favorite lipsticks to share?
