Favorite Winter Accessories
I have a love/ hate relationship with winter. Hate: Static-y hair that is never fully tamed. Love: Ice skating and festive winter activities. Hate: Disgusting brown icy sludge from a result of NY taxis. Love: The crisp air right before an anticipatory snowfall. Hate: The cold. Period. Love: Cute winter accessories!
With the anticipation of the first snowfall to officially kick off the winter season, I’ve been doing my share of window and internet shopping; I’m on the lookout for my must-buy winter hats and accessories and have culled together my favorite essentials!
My must-buy hat for this winter is the slouchy beanie or beret, as seen here on Rachel Bilson. A perfect mix of hippie-chic and French slouch, it’s ideal since it is universally flattering on all face types. The shape is perfect for face framing, especially anyone who has a cut with lots of layered angles. Best of all, the shape is not only adorable, but functional as it covers your ears and protects them from chill – as well as the majority of your head. This hat comes in a variety of price points, from the Madeline Knit Beret by hat mastermind, Eugenia Kim to the cable knit versions from Urban Outfitters.
I’ve also been strongly drawn to patterned scarves this past spring/ summer – and winter is no different. My favorites so far are this affordable dotted version from Banana Republic, which is a great combination of silk and wool, making it ideal for pairing with both my heavy winter coat
and my lighter sweaters. I’m also into this cheery Paul Smith scarf (pictured right), which adds just the right dash of warm weather cheer.
I’m also obsessed with glittens this season. What are glittens? An ingenious mix of mittens and gloves that combines the best of both worlds, with the flexibility of gloves with the warmness of a mitten. I love this affordable one from J. Crew, which comes in 9 compatible colors, that are just right for mixing and matching with my winter coats. Among my favorites are the Pop Top gloves offered by Juicy Couture and as a non-glitten alternative, these adorable Heart Knit Gloves by Moschino.
I’m excited to try out any of these offerings this upcoming winter season!
