Jennifer Behr is famous in the beauty and fashion world for her stunning line of hair accessories. You’ve seen them in practically every magazine and on countess celebrities. What you probably didn’t know is that Jennifer honed her skills stitching custom headpieces at a tiny custom millinery shop in the suburbs of Baltimore after getting her college degree in sculpture and art history. Eventually, Jennifer was recruited to design the hair accessory collection for Frederic Fekkai, who at the time was in partnership with Chanel. Later, when the line was discontinued, a buyer at Bergdorf Goodman told her to start her own line and would buy her pieces sight unseen…and that’s how the Jennifer Behr line began! Jennifer is “inspired by the richness of silks, feathers, stones, pythons and leathers,” in her quest to create elegant and vibrant pieces, which are all produced by hand in her Brooklyn studio. So what is this beauty insider obsessing over this month? Find out behind the cut!
ONE. Ice Cream — I‘ve always had an ice cream addiction. Vosges ice creams are my new favorite. I bought the Red Fire chili pepper first as an experiment and now am working my through all the flavors. They are super amazing and make everything else seem boring. I especially like Pandan, a dark green leaf that tastes like pine nut and vanilla wafer.
TWO. Handwritten Thank You Notes — I’m trying to keep up with writing notes whenever I can because they are so much more elegant than emails. Hello Lucky has beautiful custom stationary cards; I especially love the Flora series.
THREE. Hunter Boots — On a rainy cold day, there’s nothing more comfortable than my Hunter boots. In fact, I’m on my third pair, each in a different color…I’m officially obsessed. Now I can tromp through the enormous puddles in the city and still stay dry.
FOUR. Smoked Crystals –- I fell in love with smokey, dark crystals this season. I wanted to design something to show off these rare stones, so I came up with a wide smoked crystal lace headwrap that’s currently one of my favorite pieces. The lace motif gives off a traditional tiara feel, while the smoked crystals add a deep, subtle shine.
FIVE. MeBoxes –- With a small studio, we are constantly looking for creative ways to store materials. These boxes’ unique labeling feature create a cool and convenient way to keep my studio organized.
