The Instyler

When I heard about the Instyler hair gadget, I decided I had to try it to see if it actually worked. This tool, which looks like a curling iron on one side and a bristle brush on the other promises to curl, wave, or straighten hair with ease. Does it deliver? Well…it can, if you know what you’re doing.

The idea behind the Instyler makes sense. The rotating barrel delivers heat while the bristles separate hair so the heat delivers evenly throughout. If you want to straighten hair, simply pull hair through the bristles and if you want to flip the ends just wrap it around the barrel! Super simple right? Curling is a little bit trickier because you have to use the same techniques as using a real curling iron, which is having to wrap the hair around the barrel. That’s always the problem I have with curling – so that didn’t go away. However, if you can master wrapping hair, then the Instyler delivers great results faster.

Another perk about the Instyler is that it delivers results using less heat than traditional styling tools. This is because the bristles separate each hair and allow the heat to be used more efficiently. Plus, you can even use this on damp hair! Perfect for people who are in a hurry. i have to say that i just LOVE the instyler! iy gives me all the body and ahine that i need and at that, it doesn’t burn my hair!!! try one

I like it, it definitely does the job but it is ridiculously overpriced!

This product does not do as the ad promises and the return policy is outrageous. It cost me $70 to try the curling iron for one day and then sent it back. Make sure to read the fine print!!! This is a scam.

They get you with the 14.99 for thirty days and then bill you for the real price! May be a good product but sucks you in thinking you are getting a deal and bam!!!!! Read the small print online or if you call ask what the price is for the product! BE INFORMED!!!!!

I have not tried this product yet–but I had my daughter to order it for me because I have watched the infomercial on it and I like what I have seen so far. The price is on the internet for 2 payments of 39.99 plus shipping and handling–therefore, what scam is it? If you are charged for something that you do not want after returning it–you must call them immediately to take the charge off the card. If this is not done–then call the Better Business Bureau.

I too was sucked in by the infomercial, but having been burned in the past I decided to do some research before I purchased. I was well aware of the hefty price tag and did not think I was getting this product for the amount of the trial. I found some great reviews including some demonstrations on YouTube and decided to purchase. I did not get the instyler from the site but on auction at half price.

btw! it’s amazing. I don’t use it everyday just on the weekends when going out with my friends but it works great. Takes a bit of practice at first but once you get the hang of it, it works so well.

My friend bought one…she has fine hair…hair can get stuck in brush and pulled OUT OF SCALP! Be careful!

wow, i was shocked to read the price, i was waiting to see if i got one for Christmas because i’d seen the infomercial so many times and never have i noticed the large price.thank you so much for the info!

I sent mine back because it was horrible and just today it was back on my door step. I did everything I was suppose to do to send it back. They said I didn’t put the”credit return number on the outside of the box,” well I did put it on there two times on each side of the box. Now I don’t even know if I can get my money back on the thing because it is out of the 30 days. Please beware of this horrible product and company.

Got this product through the infomercial. I also felt like it was extremely expensive but I was curious. I like the concept but I found that, even on the lowest setting, it was way to hot for my hair. I don’t think I could use it everyday. I will probably keep it and use it on special occasions. Beware and be careful when using. I burnt my neck badly while using it by just accidently touching the iron to my skin for a millisecond.

I wish I had not spent the money on this. The Instyler is no better than a regular straightening iron. It does not give me fine hair body, it makes it very fly away and full of static. It does not give any curl or wave to fine hair. Not worth the price at all. I have also have some breakage from using it.

The concept is nice, but you should be able to return any product and their policy makes it impossible! I am truly disappointed to still be paying for something that I am not 100% happy with. The 30 days is from the original purchase, not after you’ve actually completed paying for it, if you choose the infomercial’s monthly payment plan. This sucks!

I ordered mine the first week of December, didn’t get it until the middle of January, even though I paid for expedited handling. I paid for the upgrade, not knowing that meant that I wouldn’t get the option to change the way the thing rotated (mine does not look like the picture above. I have no button to change the direction of the spin)

I was going to sell one of them to a friend of mine, so we pulled them out of the box and the first one DIDN’T WORK!

I called them, told them I needed it exchanged, and they said sure fine send it back, and we’ll mail you another one. That was January 9th. I mailed it back on the 10th, they received it on the 13th, and TODAY (OVER A MONTH LATER!!) I get notification that they’ve send me another one.

Who knows if this one will work.

You have to either a) have someone do your hair for you or b) have double jointed shoulders to be able to work this thing on your whole head if you cannot change the direction of the rotations.

Does it work? yeah, it works great on one side of my head.

I’m going to sell them both.

I bought the instyler from http://www.shoptvcanada.com and have to say LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I tried the kiyoseki another flat iron i purchased off tv and wasn’t happy with it. Check out this great product if your in the market for a good straightener.

A co-worker of mine bought this product and said that it worked good. I was anticipating ordering for myself but wanted to know if it really did work. My hair is very soft and fine;semi thin. The instyler is a really good product, and is very easy to use. It gave my hair a silky and bouncy look. Come on people, if you’re able to bump or curl your whole head with a curling iron you should be able to manage the simple technique of the instyler.

If it matters I am tri-racial(french,cherokee, and african american) and have a sort of dificult texture hair to straighten, being that it will naturally curl or wave. The product works well on my shoulder length louisiana home grown mane.

Finally, I have CONQUERED THE KINK!!! For years I tried everything to relax my tight “telephone cord” curls, and had resigned myself that naturally curly hair is a force of nature, and like a hurricaner or tornado, you cannot interfere with a powerful force of nature. I found that growing my hair out really long was the only way to get it to fall rather than bush out, but as I get older I want shoulder length hair and my hair just doesn’t do that length very well. When I saw those girls on the infomercial with that bushy hair, and how the InStyler was relaxing it and making it fall so naturally, I had to have it. But first I cheaped out and bought a straightener, thinking maybe after all these years they would be making them better, but my hair turned out like broomstraw. Now I have my InStyler, and I will never be without it! It takes practice, admittedly, but I can wear my hair straight or loosly curled and it looks natural and feels so luxuriously smooth and silky, I cannot believe it is actually my hair. I cannot stop looking in the mirror. I comb a smoothing milk through it in the shower and blow dry it before styling my hair. It takes me about 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours to style my hair, but then I have an almost infallible hair style for 3-4 days. I feel like a new person, and my confidence has skyrocketed. I no longer feel like I am the different one in a world of straight haired people. Now I feel the urge to style everybody else’s hair too. For me, the InStyler has been LIFE CHANGING!

.I TRIED IT MAKES IT SMOOTH AND SHINY AND I HAVE HAIR EXTENSION .THIS IS THE BEST FLAT IRON I HAVE TRIED AND I WORK IN A HAIR SALON .AND MY HAIR LOOKS SO GREAT AND NO FRIZZ.

There are some positive & negative comments about the instyler so I think I going to wait. (OVERPRICED)The price is ridiculous. They will soon be in the stores for sale just like all of the other TV products that are advertised.

I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my Instyler because each and everytime I plug it in and start using it the fuse blows. I’ve tried it in three bathrooms in my house, and I even turned off all the lights except for one, and anything else that may have been running electricity. Inevitably, after a minute or two of using it the circuit breaker would pop and turn off the electricity. This product either takes a lot more electricity than a hair dryer or flatiron- or there’s something wrong with it electrically.

I want to try the instyler but am afraid to deal with the company based on previous reviews. I think I am going to wait for the product to become available in stores, so if there is a problem I can return it.

Yep – with the mixed reviews – especially on the return policy, I’m going to wait as well to see it in stores.

This was not a good idea for me either, I wish I had not purchased this prodeuct. But I have learned my lesson and I will not ever order anything off line again. Wait to see it in stores. It does not work like on TV.

the instyler is great and ungreat i have read on these comments so far. but even though ur thoughts are not so great i still have the urge to get it. so if u are intersted as i am try this website like i am http://www.eavydiscount.com

at http://www.eavydiscount.com the instyler was only $56.99
and its the really thing so get it now before they run out

theres is also this website with a great deal so you guys dont hurt by the expense of it. its called
http://www.i-laikee.com

I too purchased the enstyler on television infomerical. I really don’t see the difference in using a curling iron. The return process is almost minimal to none. They will give you excuse after excuse as to how wonderful the product is. I am sorry I purchased this product. I will not be buying anything else from TV ads. This is a scam.

so does it really really work cuz im tryin 2 get it…

I went to eavydiscount.com and they are charging $90.99 for ONE. Also, for those people waiting for it to show up in the stores, it will show up BUT it will be the same price, they are never priced less in the stores than on TV and you don’t get the extra. It obviously will be easier to return to the store if you have your receipt, but I’ve had to return things purchased thru infomercials or online and all you have to do is make 1 phone call telling them you want your money back now and no future charges are to be made and make it very clear you will do something about it if it’s not done and the money will be put back. You can also call your bank that issued the card or go online to your card and make is so they can not touch your account anymore. I’m going to give this a try. It’s rare that I see newscasts that report on items give good reviews on the product they are reporting on and I’ve seen nothing but good reviews on all of the consumer protection reports.

Sorry one more thing here is the link to the FTC consumer information site that tells you your rights and what to do if something does go wrong.

I just recieved the instyler 2day. I have very dry frizzy hair so i was extremely eager however when i tryed it something went wrong. At first it turned on and was working perfectly fine then it shut off. I’m not exactly sure as 2 wat happend but I read knock offs r from China and it was made in china. Maybe a coincidence or maybe not!

I use the InStyler myself and have to say I love the product. I have really curley hair and it does the job in taming the beast. Definately a lot of mixed reviews about this product, I haven’t had any issues myself. If your searching for the instyler you can purchase it at http://www.seentvcanada.com. It probably is the best hair straightener I’ve used so far. I like it better than the Chi Flat Iron.

HHHHHMMMMMMM… I have always been a tom-boy, you know, hair up, no make-up kinda thing. I am trying to make a change, and dress up for my boyfriend, ( & give myself more confidence). I am so scared to get the Instyler… The price is a let down, and all these ppl saying things about SCAM, REFUND IS SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE, & TURNS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF USE, simply scares the crap outta me. I think im going to take my chances with a reg. straitener, it’s gotta be better then getting totaly ripped off. & to add to my being scared, ppl are saying it takes alot of time, patience, and practice… ummmm, I am way to new to the girly world to get something so complicated… thanks for everyones honesty. I am SOOOOOO glad I listened to my boyfriend, and read the reviews!!!!!

this product is very dangerous. I unplugged the instyler and was putting it away when it fell into my lap for a split second. I stung for awhile, then it swelled up into a total bubble, it product a severe burn. It is a week later and it is still not healing properly. Tomorrow i will have to go to the doctor.

Please be extremely careful with this product, it can and will product a severe burn is less than a few seconds.

I gave the styler to my sister and it broke the first time she used it.

This product should be taken off the market immediately….

thank you
Donna

dear Donna, dropping hot objects on bare skin will usually burn it, whether it’s the InStyler or a conventional curling iron.

I ordered the Instyler.I was charged 24.94. After 2 uses I knew this wasn’t going to work for my fine hair. I had to turn the heat up way to high to see any results. Then my hair was full of static.I called the company to return. The man I talked to said I only didn’t give it a chance since I only had it for a week & he knew exactly what I needed for it to work & would send the product free. I told him I was only interested in my refund. Then he asked if I would keep it if I could get 50% off the price. Again I told him I only wanted my refund. After he basically pointed out how much money I would be losing out on he finally gave me my return authorization #.He assured me there would be no additional charges on my credit card. I mailed it back the next morning by priority 3 day mail on Sept 30. I got verification from the postal service that it was delivered on Oct 2.On Oct 17 they charged my credit card 74.58. When I called the company the girl said it takes two weeks for them to receive the product then an additional 72 hrs for your card to be credited. The 72 hrs were up a week ago. It is now Oct 27 and they still have not taken care of it. I’m going to try to call them one more time. If I get no results this time I feel I have no other alternative than to report them to the Better Buisness Bureau.I’m wondering has “ANYONE” gotten back their refund.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have not purchased the instyler yet. I can’t afford it at this moment. Years ago I purchased a revostyler. It’s the same concept, only it did not have the heated barrel. You have to use it in conjuction with your blow dryer in order to obtain results. My daughter and I would have to take turns holding the blow dryer for each other. I’m glad to see the heating element was added with the instyler because using the blow dryer with revostyler was difficult. We still use the revostyler and have always loved the results. I’m looking forward to purchasing the instyler.
Thanks.

I was interested in getting the instyler because I thought it might b easier for my 11 yr old daughter to use over the Chi iron. Like many of you, I am hesitant of the price- but mostly the big issue of customer service return policy.. Sure, u CAN make them do it… But does anyone knowingly want the hassle? Here is a tip: brush each section of hair before straightening, and use a heat protect & moisturizing product prior to any high heat styling for best results. I too have naturally corkscrew curls even @ near waist length and Chi oil, Nexxus heat protect, & a chi iron on brushed sections has been the ONLY true way of really straightening AND making my hair look healthy n not full of static n frizzy flyaways (not to mention lasts till I wash it)… Good luck ladies.

I bought the instyler more than 9 months ago. I don’t think it not was worth the money. They reason behind that, I have a curly hair and the instyler does not straighten the roots and if you try to get it closer you are definitely getting an electrical burn, which hurts a lot! So you are left with two options either double the work and straighten the roots then curl the ends or leave your hair looking weird with curly roots and styled ends.
I would recommend it if you have natural straight hair. CURLY HAIR LADIES, NO don’t think about it.

I have long hair that has been straightened and it is very flat. The enstyler is the perfect solution, it works great and well worth the money.

I was excited seeing the commercial but now I’m not too sure after all the complaints about how it functions. For one I knew it wasn’t 14.99. I’m definitely going to get it from ebay. Cheaper & then I’ll feel I got my money’s worth wih warranty…

My daughter purchased the unit for our house.
Like everyone else I had seen it on TV and was leary.
I was blown away by the cost of it.
All in all I do like the way it operates and styles.
It is really quick to use.
On the high setting a person must work very fast.
I think it has, and will burn your ends a bit.
Due to the fact that most of our hair ends are
a bit fragile.
We possibly may have an instyler that is defective.
Being african american & med. length permed hair.
With the instyler set on high it consistantly keeps
turning itself off.
Very frustrating and annoying.
Seeing as how you would think it would be able to hold
it’s designed temperature and function for periods long enough to style an entire head.
My daughter having natural hair shorter length with the
instyler set on high, hers only shuts off once during
styling.
The instyler when it can hold the temperature does
an awesome job.
I am sad about it, but I cannot depend on it for my own
styling needs.

ERK! the instyler is so annoying i finally got my dad to get it for me for Christmas and whenever i use it after less then 5 minutes it turns off and stops spinning! it gets me very upset. plus when i first used it the bristles melted to my hair and to the product!and it didn’t get rid of friz it added more!i can’t make it work. and i am just wondering is the barrel supposed to heat up because mine does NOT!

I just bought the instyler at Costco. It only took me 5 minutes to get the hang of using it. I love it! It does make my fine hair have static, but, hairspray takes care of that. It is so much easier than trying to blow dry with a curling brush and I can get my hair to look like I just came out of the salon.
Yes, the barrel is supposed to heat up. Mine does….

I wish I would have read these reviews before I purchased the Instyler, I guess I have learned a lesson here. I ordered the Instyler, I haven’t received it yet but now after reading these reviews, I feel like I made a big mistake in purchasing this product.

I just received my Instyler from an e-bay auction and paid 48 dollars plus shipping/handling. The product seems to do the opposite of what is said in the directions. It heats up and blinks = the rotator only works then. When the blinking stops and the Instyler is supposed to be ready for use, the barrel does not turn. I lose my shipping to send the item and must pay shipping to send it back. Hardly seems worth it. Neither by auctioneer or Instyler customer service have returned my inquiries. Pissed.

I bought the Instyler from QVC last July 2009. I like it but the heating element went out yesterday. It will rotate but there is no heat. From reading these reviews, it seems I was scammed if the company doesn’t stand by its product and charging so much to return it. I brought it to QVC to see if they will do something.

I bought the instyler back in july. they say if you do the payment plan it is one price for 3 months. i did that and 6months later charged my account again for $39.99. i called to find out why and was told that is the way it is set up. the total cost was $159.00. i guess i should have checked a little closer befor buying. it breaks your hair and burns you very easily. i burnt my head badly and i just barely touched the instyler to my head for a milisecond. i also have burnt my hand as has my 17 year old daughter. i am very dissapointed with this product. and yes i have tried many different products that is used for flat irons, hairdriers and such.nothing worked. will buy a differnt straightner to use. this one is horrible.

OMBG….. you guys are scaring me. I have just bought the insyler and thought i was a great product…. Until now. I havent recieved it yet and im scared ive lost mi nomey. I hope it works. Ill update later.

I just bought one off of e-bay haven’t recieved it yet but I hope it works as it says cause it’s not cheap but I did buy mine cheaper off e-bay with the 3 yr warranty from a distributer from this company will update later wish me luck.

I have nice idian like hair and I need 2 get it straight. I’ve seen the instyler on tv but i’m scared of buying it because the tv lies sometimes. Most of the stuff they show on it isn’t true but I am willing 2 give it a try 2 c what it can do 4 my hair.

OMG! u r all scaring me too. I saw the product advertised on TV this morning and thought WOOOOOOT! looks great…….I have long hair that I end up sitting on most of the time because of its length(past my waist and backside…My hair is so thick it weighs almost 1kg….I used to use a hair straightener because it made my hair seem sooooooo much lighter and easier to carry but every time I washed my hair I got my curls back and the weight(and yeah I should cut it but NEH!) Anyway, now I just use a standard clothes iron..lol…..and it works great, can set the temperature to suit my needs and since doing so….no burns, no complaints and my hair remains straight for months(mind you I had been using the iron for a while now) and only takes me 5 mins to straighten my hair…..and yes! I use the ironing board too…..
I wanted to try out the instyler and reading all these reviews has not made it an easy choice for me…the TV ad says ‘ring in the next 30min and you can try the product out RISK FREE 30 days and all you pay for is the S&H…..now I dont know if the prices you are quoting are USD or not, but hell! if it is, theres NO Way I could afford it at the exchange rate we have here in New Zealand it would cost me well in excess of $200 plus the S&H.

For now I will just keep using my standard household clothes iron.

OMG!!!LOL!!! I was thinking of buying the instyler from bed bath and beyond ($100.00) but after reading these reviews it can stay right there on the shelf. I have thick wavey hair and I was hoping for a little styling relief from the salon, guess not to Maria from New Zealand keep doing what ur doing. To all those brave souls who own the instyler and all who still want to buy you have my best wishes or condolences.

I bought the Instyler at Bed Bath and Beyond..I’ve never had any problem with it. I always use a heat protector cream on my hair before applying any heat to it..blow dryer, etc.. I love this product! Even with my old curling iron I always sectioned my hair off to curl it. I still do with the Instyler..There is a trick to curling your hair with this product. I watched videos on their website and on youtube. The Instyler not only straightens my hair it smooths it out and it feels so much silkier than normal.. I strongly reccomend this product. No electrical product will trip circuit breakers unless there is a problem already in your electrical system. I’ve never had the Instyler shut itself off automatically. Yes, the product gets hot..but my hair immediately feels cool when I remove the product. It is the best overall hair product I’ve ever purchased.
