Beauty, Makeup(Urban) Decay In Style

Between all of the holiday collections this year, I think Urban Decay is the one that’s impressed me the most so far.  The collection is huge and built around sets that contain all the products you’ll need to create glamorous holiday eyes with the bright colors and sparkle that Urban Decay is known for.  Any one of them would be perfect as a gift for a makeup loving friend or family member (don’t tell my sister, but I already picked up the one she fell in love with for her!)

It’s a tough call, but my favorite of the holiday offerings is the Book of Shadows Palette ($45).  It’s a limited edition eyeshadow palette that opens up to reveal a large mirror that’s framed by 3D pop-ups of Urban Decay graphics like birds, butterflies, and flowers (so different from any other palette I own and SO adorable).  Inside the pull out drawer, you’ll find 16 eyeshadows in a wide variety of shades (everything from greens and purples to browns and pinks).  There are also two brushes and a travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion to make sure your shadows last as long as the party does.

Perfect for the environmentally conscious, The Sustainable Shadow Box ($36) is another set you won’t want to leave the store without.  It has 10 of Urban Decay’s best-selling eyeshadows in it, all arranged in coordinating duos to make even the most makeup challenged girl find her perfect color combination.  The lacquered case is made out of sustainable materials, so you can feel good about feeding your makeup addiction, and the top swings open to reveal a mirror – just what a girl on the go needs.

If you’re looking for eyeliners, look no further than these two sets.  The 24/7 Travel Size Set of 5 in Velvet Rope and VIP will each give you a dazzling array of color.  Velvet Rope has more basic colors: Yeyo (metallic white), 1999 (plum with micro gold glitter), Zero (zealous black), Bourbon (brown with micro gold glitter), and Stash (dark green/gold).  VIP also contains Zero, but the other colors are a little more on the daring side.  Lucky (brilliant deep copper), Covet (peacock green), Electric (bright aquamarine), and Lust (plush purple) are all bright and will definitely make your eyes stand out.  (A must during the holidays!)  All of the pencils have Urban’s trademark creaminess, so they’re super easy to blend, and they’re waterproof for even more long-lasting color.

If you’re a fan of Urban’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion (and really, who isn’t?) you’re definitely going to want to get your hands on the Urban Essentials set ($39).  It comes with two eyeshadows, Goddess (midnight blue with lots of electric-blue microglitter) and Midnight Cowboy (subtle golden-beige with gold glitter), both great going out shades.  It also includes an oversized bottle of the Primer Potion – the only place you can get the super-sized tube.  Ever since I discovered it, I make sure not to do my eye makeup without applying the primer first, so you can be sure I’ll be snapping a couple of these sets up for the extra big container.

My eyes are green, so I’m a big fan of wearing gold on them when I want them to stand out.  (Also, gold just seems perfect for the holidays, doesn’t it?)  So I was super excited when I saw this Best of Urban set ($32).  It has a wide array of gold shades perfect for creating sparkly eyes for a party.  I started with the Eyeshadow Primer Potion (of course!)  Then I applied the Bourbon 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, which is brown with gold glitter.  Over that, I put on the Half Baked Eyeshadow (subtle, lustrous bronze), and then carefully lined over that with the Baked Heavy Metal Glitter Liner.  It was simple and easy, but I loved the results – it was definitely a festive, night time look, but it wasn’t so over the top that I felt like I should be dancing under a disco ball.

Finally, for a fan of Urban Decay lipsticks, the Luxury Lipstick Cap ($15) will dress up your favorite shade and make it party ready!  It replaces the standard lipstick cap and is a translucent purple wrapped in a gunmetal shell.  It has a delicate filigree pattern on it that makes the cap look elegant and tough all at the same time – definitely not the standard lipstick cover.  I have more than a few Urban lipsticks, so I like using this cap on the shade I’m using that day.  It makes it easier to grab it quickly out of my bag and it’s a great conversation starter!

These are only a few of the great sets and palettes that Urban Decay is offering this holiday season, so be sure to check out the entire selection in person.  If you’d like to order online, visit

I LOVE the book of shadows. It was my first foray into Urban Decay, but surely won’t be my last. I finally get what all the hype is about!
