IntimatesShape Yourself

With the holiday season, it means you’ll be squeezing yourself into a slew of dresses – from slinky to frothy. Instead of trying to suck in your tummy and not breathe all night, wear supportive intimates. In fact, this makes it the best time to invest in some shapewear if you don’t already have some in your closet! We’ve listed three of our tops picks below:

The new Slimming Slip by Sassybax is one that will work year-round for the majority of the dresses in your closet – whether for work or party. This slip basically acts as a sleek tank dress, but smoothes and slims your entire torso. The “no-cling, no-ride, no-bind” knit will prevent bunching or tugging, but won’t make you feel like you can’t walk, eat or breathe either. A knit bra is included – but if you feel like you need extra support, wear a strapless underneath. This is going to work with a variety of materials – jersey, satin, chiffon, etc. Just make sure the straps on your dress are wide enough!

If you have skinnier straps on your dress, we turn to Spanx, which always seems to have an answer. The Hide & Sleek Strapless Full Slip is a favorite amongst the editors here. It has a double-layer top, which offers light support (so you can choose to go bra-less if you want or can afford to) and it really does compress the “extras” through the mid-thigh area. This piece is going to keep you in place, but you’ll still be able to move around with ease and let you eat that extra piece of cake.

For the sexy, slinky or low-cut dresses, we recommend Va Bien’s new Simply Irresitable Slip. This slip includes a hidden body shaper to suck you in at all the right places, plus a plunging bra to lift, support and keep you in place. Don’t be fooled by how pretty it looks because this will give you seriously smooth lines. The French-inspired lace treatment on the slip makes it ultra seductive…so you don’t have to worry if it peeks out a little.

Lastly, it would be irresponsible for us to write about shapewear and intimates without reminding you about how to care for them. To best care for your garments, you absolutely must hand wash these pieces, using a gentle detergent such as Tocca’s Laundry Delicate. This will clean your garments without causing damage or affect the stretch of fine fabrics. Tocca is a particular favorite because you don’t need much – just a capful works fine for a sinkful and as a bonus, it leaves your delicates deliciously scented. The bottle is also small enough to toss into your suitcase in case you’re traveling this season!

We hope that you find something that works for you – and if you have any suggestions, please do let us know by leaving a comment!

I love my new favorite shapewear find – Slimpressions! A premium line of shapers for the top half of a woman’s body. Slims my back fat, jelly belly AND ARM FLAB! Love them! A saleswoman at Intimacy in NY tipped me off to them when I was there. I just ordered a THIRD from herroom.com though. (free shipping) Yeah!

The Sassybax slip rocks and what an investment. I wear mine in black as a dress and it is so sexy. I top it off with my new black bolero and I can go anywhere.
