JewelryChampagne Quartz and Zapphire

Doing a little last minute shopping for your New Year wardrobe?  One tip that I’ve found useful is to splurge a little on  a fab accessory instead of a fab dress- because face it- once your New Year’s dress makes it onto Facebook pictures, you won’t be so keen on wearing it again for another special event.  The right jewel, however, is a whole different story as it can accessorize anything from jeans and a cashmere sweater to a very LBD.

This year my pick for the holiday is a pair of gorgeous champagne quartz  earrings that I recently discovered from new designer Zapphire Jewelry. Though the brand just launched last month, the collection of beautifully ornate yet surprisingly accessible pieces have already made it onto my 2010 list of must-haves.  The jewelry are all handmade out of semi-precious stones and combine traditional inspiration with contemporary form. These earrings are made of sterling silver with 22k gold plating, studded with champagne quartz and CZ- and rings up at an affordable $215.

I’m excited to see what else comes of this brand in the next year.  Visit their website to peruse the collection and place orders.

FoodDrink Twist

Flavored waters aren’t new to the market, but most of the time they seem to be carbonated and for some reason, I just never got on board.  However, I recently was introduced to twist, a non-carbonated brand, and was happy to try a few of their flavors. Well, apparently, after trying… I can now say that I do like some flavored waters.

Overall, the packaging for twist is fun, but still upscale and chic. The water itself has no artificial ingredients or preservatives; also each bottle is only 9 calories. (You’d be surprised by how much sugar and calories can be in flavored waters.) One of my favorites is the Mandarin White Tea, which has a hint of citrus, and just honestly is so yummy. (In fact…wish I had case of this flavor at my apartment now!) The other one that I’m favoring is the West Indies Lime, which makes me feel like I’m at a spa — you know, with their fabulous lemon/lime water they serve post-treatment. If you like flavored waters, this is definitely a must-try…and if you’re not, maybe twist will convert you!

The twist brand is not available in all markets yet, but visit www.drinktwist.com for your nearest locations and for future distribution.

Bath & Body, HomeLittle Ember Sampler

Have you ever tried Jimmyjane’s candles? They smell absolutely fabulous! For a limited time, they’re offering a set called the Little Ember Sampler that is a must-have if you’re a candle aficionado.

Containing six paraffin and lead-free candles, these mini Ember candles burn beautifully and evenly; each burn up to 8 hours each, which is pretty impressive since each candle is only 20 g. Each set contains these six scents: Honeysuckle + Clover, Ginger + Date, Truffle + Gardenia, Habanero + Grapefruit, Vetiver + Honey, and Cocoa + Fig. Each smell amazing and are incredibly fragrant, so you can’t really go wrong! What is most unique is that as the candle burns, the liquid turns into massage oil. Containing jojoba, shea butter, vitamin E, aloe and other botanicals, it’s great for your skin and will leave you glowing after using. Massage your stiff neck or shoulders after work…or better yet, convince someone to do it for you. The set is reasonably priced at $45, and available at Jimmyjane.com.

Bath & Body, BeautyRemind Us

This holiday season, philosophy is reminding us to keep the service members overseas in our thoughts as we spend time with our friends and loved ones. Show your support with Remind U.S., a shampoo, shower gel, and bubble bath combo that smells just like freshly baked cookies (yum!). The 16 oz. bottle costs $20 and will last a good long time. 100% of the proceeds from Remind U.S. go to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, a wonderful organization dedicated to providing support to wounded service members, veterans, and their families. Definitely consider purchasing one for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for someone you care about.

For other ways to support our service men and women, check out the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as Xerox’s Let’s Say Thanks program. Happy holidays, everyone!

Bath & Body, Beauty, FragranceLimited Edition Secret Garden Scents

Seasonal scented body sprays, creams, and washes seem to be one of those hit-or-miss beauty products. While some can smell of sweet sugar cookies, heavenly gingerbread, or fresh-out-of-the-oven pumpkin pie, the fragrances themselves can prove dismal compared to their delicious descriptions. If you are a fan of sweet seasonal scents at bargain prices that actually do live up to their description, check out Victoria’s Secret’s latest line of limited edition Secret Garden scents: Gilded Ginger Creme, Merry Vanilla Twirl, and Sparkling Sugared Pear.

At their special price of 3/$24, 5/$30, or 8/$35, you can stock up without any buyers remorse! I’ve always loved sweet scents for daytime casual wear, so my favorite of the three turned out to be Merry Vanilla Twirl, the sweetest of the bunch. The crème brulée sweetness is nicely balanced by vanilla and fruity (starfruit, technically) undertones, so even though it sweet and delicious smelling, I don’t smell like a tub of frosting! If you’re a fan of seasonal scents and like refreshing citrus scents, you’ll love Sparkling Sugared Pear, a nice seasonal alternative. The Gilded Ginger is intensified with a musky smell and is definitely the most “grown up” smelling, but fun and flirty at the same time.

For some of the yummiest scents of the year at a reasonable price, strap on your angel wings and fly over to Victoria’s Secret!

    Beauty, MakeupSparkle Through the Season

P24851If you’re looking for a shadow palette with a little bit of shimmer, look no further than Laura Mercier’s Baked Eye Colour Palette. Made up of five different shades, most of them revolving around the bronze color family, it’s perfect for an after work party or event that calls for makeup a little more dramatic than your daytime look, but not sparkly enough for something like a black tie affair. The shadows go on fairly sheer when applied dry and a little darker when wet, but they’re never super heavy or overwhelming, so it’s easy to layer the shades to create a bunch of different looks. The shimmer in the shadows is also sort of subdued – it’s a sparkle that shines when it catches the light as opposed to one with huge chunks of glitter that migrate all over your face when you’re wearing the shadows, which I really like.

The palette would make a nice gift for your social butterfly friend who’ll be heading to a lot of parties this holiday season, or you can pick one up for yourself at your nearest Laura Mercier counter or on Sephora.com.
