We’ve featured Rebecca Minkoff bags multiple times here at TDO, and for good reason; her bags have the perfect blend of style, wearability, and functionality that make them a must-have for any contemporary, modern woman. We’ve delved even deeper into our obsession with Rebecca Minkoff bags by scoring an interview with the woman and namesake herself behind the line!
It’s widely known that Rebecca Minkoff first got her break designing bags when her good friend, Jenna Elfman, asked her to design one for a movie. It was from this request that the famous Morning After Bag was conceived, and soon after, it was seen on the shoulders and arms of Hollywood starlets such as Lindsay Lohan, Hayden Panettiere, and Kristin Cavallari. Rebecca originally started out as a clothing designer, and even founded her own clothing line in 2001. From our interview, we found out good news for you Rebecca-aholics — a Rebecca Minkoff clothing line is in the works (see below for details)! TDO was grateful for the chance to spend some one on one time with Rebecca, as we talked about everything from her process to designing, celebrity inspiration, and plans for the future:
The Daily Obsession: All of us at TDO are already a huge fan of your bags, of course! We were wondering where you get your inspiration from.
Rebecca Minkoff: I really get my inspiration from everywhere: the media, my experiences, to people I see on the street.
TDO: What is your creative process in coming up with designs? When and where do you do most of your work?
RM: I always keep an inspiration board and my inspirations can come at any time! I do a lot of my work in the office, but also get ideas and inspirations at home and while I’m travelling…
TDO: How would you describe the ideal Rebecca Minkoff woman?
RM: The Rebecca Minkoff woman is stylish, independent and loves to travel.
TDO: Among your own bags, what do you consider to be a classic that a girl can’t live without?
RM: The Morning After Bag! (pictured left, carried by Lindsay Lohan)
TDO: What is your “It” bag for the New Year?
RM: The Devote Tote Stud! (pictured right, carried by Molly Sims)
TDO: What are your upcoming plans for the next year? Any professional New Year’s resolutions, such as plans to expand into additional areas such as clothing or shoes – or personal ones?
RM: I am thrilled to be currently designing clothing and hope to expand into shoes in the near future. I am also taking up Bikram Yoga!
TDO: Apart from yourself, who are your current fashion icons? There are numerous celebrities who have carried your bags; is there anyone who hasn’t carried one yet that you would like to see?
RM: Angelina Jolie and Sienna Miller.
TDO: What’s currently in your bag?
RM: My cell phone, camera, Ipod, RM wallet, lipgloss and keys.
TDO: What was your first handbag?
RM: My first handbag was a Hello Kitty pouch.
TDO: What was your best holiday gift this past year?
RM: An Alexander Wang vest from my fiance. He waited in line at the sample sale for me!
