Spa Chakra Chicago

As a relative newcomer to Chicago, I had yet to experience a true, head-to-toe luxury spa pampering. That is, until Spa Chakra invited me to their amazing space in the Palmer House Hilton to review their Specialty Body Therapy treatment. It’s located downtown and I couldn’t imagine a better way to unwind after an annoyingly tough day at work. I took a short walk over, and was greeted by a friendly receptionist who asked me to choose a scent that would follow me through each step of my treatment for a truly personalized experience. My curiosity was piqued and I chose the most relaxing scent, ready to begin.

What first struck me about Spa Chakra was its high ceilings and wide open spaces. Unlike other spas, you’ll never feel cramped or boxed in here. There’s always a feel of privacy no matter how many other customers are around, with private bathrooms and treatment rooms that also serve as your personal locker room. This made me feel more comfortable right away, because I tend to feel a little self-conscious even in a spa setting. After changing into my robe, I met with my therapist for a brief consultation. I filled out a short questionnaire and indicated any problem areas… all while my feet were relaxing in a lovely foot bath infused with the scent I had chosen. The therapist was professional and attentive, understanding exactly what my dry skin needed.

The Specialty Body Therapy starts with a Vichy shower, which is a shower with a set of overhead positioned shower heads that cleanse you while laying down. Who knew that laying while water sprays around you and you’re slowly exfoliated would be so decadent? After I dried off, it was back to the treatment room so that the therapist could apply a therapeutic blend that would moisturize my skin. I was enveloped in a wrap so that my skin could absorb everything, and I may have even dozed off a little, feeling so warm and in bliss. 20 minutes later, I took a shower in the private bathroom next to my treatment room to rinse off.

The last step was being softly massaged and then slathered in Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum. Spa Chakra uses Guerlain skin care products, perfumes, and makeup exclusively, so you can rest assured that they are using classic, renowned products. My therapist remembered how I mentioned my legs being sore from training for a race, and concentrated on massaging my legs, which I very much appreciated. The Serum left my skin feeling incredibly moisturized and supple. At this point, I probably could’ve melted into the table from sheer content and relaxation.

I had my first taste of a luxury spa here in Chicago, and now I can’t get enough. Spa Chakra is a gem and I think any service here would be a treat for you (or a loved one!) to enjoy.
