Spring for SPF

As the days get sunnier and spring emerges, it’s very important to remember to incorporate SPF back into your skincare routine (especially if it’s dropped out during the winter season even though we all should be wearing it year-round). Sun damage happens without you really knowing it – from age spots to wrinkles – so make sure to take care of your gorgeous skin! At TDO, we begin scouting for great sunscreens around this time of year because our skin definitely needs that extra layer of SPF. We’ve found two new sunscreens on the market (both of which have SPF 30) that we are think worthy trying this spring if you are looking for something new.

The first one we will mention is the UV ESSENTIEL by Chanel, their first foray into the sunscreen market. UV ESSENTIEL is a moisturizing sunscreen that aims to shield skin while repairing sun damaged skin. With pure mineral and plant-based ingredients, this product claims to fade pre-existing dark spots, while “licorice extract helps virtually erase damaging evidence of sun exposure. A plant-based, anti-pollution complex reinforces skin’s ability to help protect itself against atmospheric pollution…[and a] mineral-based complex helps shield against UVA and UVB rays.” The formula also contains vitamin E to help fight free radicals. From our tests, this sunscreen is extremely liquid and lightweight. There’s a barely-there sweet scent that’s quite pleasant. Simply shake the tube and lightly squeeze onto your palms. Apply onto your skin and you’ll notice that it has a smooth, matte finish that dries quickly and transparently. You can apply your makeup within minutes, which makes this a great choice for your daily routine in the morning. We’re obsessed with this one!

The other must-try sunscreen is La Mer’s SPF 30 UV Protecting Fluid. This is a technologically advanced sunscreen that not only protects against UVA/ UVA rays, but also utilizes light energy to enhance skin’s appearance. More specifically, “semi-precious tourmaline and Brazilian malachite capture light energy and then transform it into beneficial green light to boost the powerful antioxidants.” It also “contains exclusive Hollow Photonic Spheres to help reroute light and scatter individual light waves,” which ultimately helps skin look more radiant and glowy. We can attest that this is totally true. Squeeze a dime-sized amount and apply to skin gently. In addition to the truly lovely scent, you’ll immediately notice the glow. We also found it incredibly moisturizing, as it contains “Smart Seaweed Ferment” – specially formulated for La Mer. The dry down is a little longer than UV Essentiel, but only by a couple minutes. This is another sunscreen that you’ll love for the radiant glow it gives you as much as the SPF power.
