TDO is looking for smart, fun, fashionable gals or guys to join our team as marketing and editorial interns. This will initially start as a 3 month summer position with the opportunity to continue into Fashion Week SS 2010 and beyond! We have some big plans to take the site to the next level and would love to get fresh, new talent on board as we expand. (more…)
There are some days when all your fashion and beauty dreams seem to come true. Like yesterday- I hung out with Rachel Roy at her own party, I got my makeup done by the head of Armani Beauty (and celeb artist) Tim Quinn, I found out that I was granted an interview with Giuseppe Zanotti. All of those topics will, of course, be dedicated their own post but a gal never really forgets what she wears on perfect days like these.
Luckily for me, Kristina Lenss, the designer of LA design label Kristinit, understands these types of important days and loaned me her Anna top which took me from the office to beauty appointments to the fashion fete. The silk drapes perfectly, hiding all my flaws while still preserving that feminine mystique. Unlike other loose fitting shirts, The Anna top cinches at the waist to avoid that dreaded pregnant look. I paired it with my L-A-M-B pencil skirt and my favorite pair of Yves Saint Laurent platform sandals. For a more casual feel, try matching it with short shorts for a dinner date.
More about Kristinit can be found on the designer’s website. I love her mix of patterns and shapes!
Avelle, the new “Bag, Borrow, or Steal,” (of Sex & The City fame) is celebrating its 5th anniversary and giving one lucky TDO reader a $250 gift card to use towards any product on their site. In addition, now through May 13 save 30% and more on all rental fees on over 900 Handbags and other accessories. Avelle is also announcing a grand prize of 5 free months of Couture for one lucky customer (not including vintage). Everyone who rents during the Anniversary sale is entered in a drawing to win.
You can enter to win the $250 gift card (that’s enough to borrow for a month or more on hundreds of designer handbags including Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci and more!) by telling us your Avelle picks in the comments. We will announce the winner by random drawing on May 13.

Add some nautical flair to your Springtime frocks, with this “Riviera” Sundress from Mink Pink, an Australian-based design duo. I love the pretty flirtiness of this dress with its seersucker inspired blue striped print that looks vintage, yet modern. Universally flattering on all body types, with a strappy, tightly fit bodice, and a slightly flared A-line skirt, this 100% cotton dress will highlight your best assets as you get your body ready for the Summer season. The surprise tie cross-back on the back of the dress also adds some additional subtle sexiness to your look and is reasonably priced at $79 dollars!
I picture pairing this dress with the navy blue Converse slip-ons that Nina featured in her last Editor’s Closet (which I immediately purchased) with a small cardigan, for chilly nights. In my ideal world, I’d wear this outfit while strolling down the cobble-stone streets by the river Seine in Paris while munching on a macaroon, but I’ll settle for wearing it during a Central Park outing as I take in some much-missed New York City sunlight.
Remember that time on The City where the girls went to Bergdorf Goodman to meet Manolo Blahnik? Well, the famous department store is hosting another shoe event except with a designer I love even more than Mr. Blahnik: Giuseppe Zanotti! He will be there presenting his new collection tomorrow from 3-5pm. No MTV camera crews guaranteed though!
We knew that the Obamas had a blog, but we had no idea they also had a Flickr account until we saw it on one of our fav sites, Guest of a Guest. There’s a ton of cool candid pictures, but the one of Michelle Obama with Carla Bruni is my favorite. I also love the one of our first couple below the cut. It looks like a movie still! Next, can they please set up a tumblr so I can have more people to follow? (more…)
Summer weather may have just arrived (and not even in some cities- ahem, Chicago) but editors are already looking forward to fall trends. Last night, Nine West invited TDO to the beautiful New Museum to preview its autumn/winter collection. These don’t hit stores until September at the earliest (and we’ll be sure to remind you of our favorites then), but you can take a sneak peek at some of the great looks below before you see them anywhere else!
I’ve found that springtime and being in your mid 20′s has meant one thing: multiple bridal showers and the emergence of wedding season in full force. As friends have found love, my friends and I have been subject to being more bridemaids and maids of honors than I can count, resulting in lots of trips of Bed, Bath, and Beyond, plentiful manual labor involving cutting the crusts off those pesky tea sandwiches, and the dreaded ‘what to do for the decorations?’ question.
It’s not easy finding practical and beautiful decorations for a bridal shower that won’t detract monetarily from the amount you’ll end up spending for the wedding gift, which is why I was excited to find these homemade pom poms from Martha Stewart. My friend, Katherine, came up with the ingenious idea of using Martha’s pom poms for a bridal shower she was responsible for decorating, and the effect was chic and cheap. The materials only include tissue paper and cloth-covered floral wire, both of which can be found easily and affordably at your local craft store.
You can make the pom poms in any color tissue paper you can find and hang them up to add some color to the room. Best of all, it’s incredibly simple to make so that even your significant others won’t mess it up–trust me, these pom poms will win against the “I won’t help you, because I’ll mess it up” argument. After the bridal shower is done, you and the guests can even take these pom poms home–after all, they’re just too pretty to throw away.
Read on here to see the exact directions for how to make these hanging pom poms, as well as a napkin ring version.
Most material I came across while prepping for my interview with Kilian Hennessy described his disposition as ”Byron-esque” and after seeing a few pictures of him, I understood why: he looked like the epitome of tortured poet. He wouldn’t look out of place scribbling furiously away on an unrequited love poem in an attic garret somewhere in the darkness of Paris. But one thing I didn’t count on was his ardent and intense love of fragrance, which I immediately detected from his passionate and sincere replies to my interview questions.
Kilian Hennessy may be a new name in luxury fragrances, but no stranger to luxury– it is entrenched in his bloodlines, as grandson to the founder of the LVMH group. Since his childhood, fragrance has been a huge part of his life. Some of his favorite childhood haunts included the family cellars in Cognac, where the sugar in alcohol and wood of cognac barrels serving as the inspiration of many of his scents today.
He joined the corporate world of perfumery by working for some of the most famous noses in the business like Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Paco Rabanne, and Alexander McQueen. With experience like that and a envious luxury pedigree to boot, it would have been easy for him to stick to the corporate path, but Kilian decided to create his own line of fragrances, By Kilian. Read on to get some additional insight into his reason for creating his own line of fragrances, his creative process, and the sexiest place is for a woman to apply her fragrance: (more…)
