Editors’ Note: We’re so happy to introduce our newest contributor, Charli Schuler, who is based in LA. She is not only stunningly gorgeous, but fabulously fun and fashionable. We know you’re going to love what she has to say about what’s obsession-worthy (and what’s not)!
I’m turning into an eco-geek and I am always on the prowl for light yet rich, organic moisturizers to quench my constantly dry skin. So far, Argan Oil, which is super-rich in fatty acids and sourced from the Argan tree in Morocco, has made two of my dreams come true: to moisturize with a conscience and to hug dreamy pro surfer Kelly Slater.
Wha? I’ll explain: Celeb supporters Slater and Erykah Badu were on hand at the Kiehl’s Earth Day launch of Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion, a smooth, light body moisturizer that smells ever so slightly of citrus and stars organic, fairly traded Argan Oil. Kiehl’s enlisted Slater, Badu, Adrian Grenier and Parsons The New School for Design to create limited edition label art versions of the lotion, of which 100 percent of the net proceeds will go to the Waterkeeper Alliance. (How’s that for eco-support?)
Head over to your local Kiehl’s store or kiehls.com to snap up the limited-edition lotions pronto (or just gaze at Kelly Slater’s photo). Also available for less moo-la: Superbly Restorative Argan Body Cleansing Oil and Argan Skin Salve.
Doesn’t this makeup look from YSL just scream summer resort glamour? It would go perfectly with an Eres bikini, some jewels and a French Riveria vacation right about now. This is one of the most striking looks I’ve come across and I can’t stop looking at it! I’m especially enamored with the TRÉSOR D’AFRIQUE COLLECTOR Palette for the Eyes in the blue version that’s featured in the shoot.
I haven’t gotten my hands on the products yet but it’s at the top of my list for Summer 2009. It just came out at Saks so let me know what you think if you get the chance to check it out. Not sure how to pull it off? Today, experts are also offering individual tutorials between 10:00am and 7:00pm on how to achieve the look. Send us a before/after picture if you go!
If you’re looking for a flirty new scent, GUESS by Marciano is one you’re going to want to check out. They call it a “spicy floral” and I have to admit, all these flowery scents I’m liking lately are making me question my previous notion that I don’t like floral fragrances! (Although none of them are straight up florals, which is probably why).
GUESS by Marciano has some really interesting notes in it. The top notes are Star Fruit, Grapefruit, Curacao Orange, and Cardamon, and the base notes are Musk, Dulche de Leche, Vanilla and Blonde Wood. The middle is where the floral notes come into play – Pink Honeysuckle, Peony, and Crystal Jasmine – so they’re not overpowering. If I was to describe this scent to someone, I would definitely use the word intoxicating. For me, it just seems like a night time fragrance with the Musk note lingering on my skin. It’s something that I would want a cute boy I was flirting with to lean in and smell when we were talking – it’s sexy, but not overpowering, and I find that the citrus notes stand out to me as well. The nice thing is that the scent also comes in a cologne that smells sort of similar (but obviously a touch more masculine!) so if you like the scent, you can get that version for the man in your life. (The cologne has a dry down of musk too, but is called a “woody oriental” and has notes of Lavender, Frozen Ginger Mandarin, and Amber).
Who knew when I was obsessing over my GUESS jeans in high school that I’d still be talking about their products this many years later?
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t take very good care of my skin after shaving. I’m usually in such a rush that I just use soap and water (mistake #1), and sometimes I don’t even remember to slather on some lotion when I’m out of the shower (mistake #2). That’s especially bad for someone with dry skin. The new Almond After Shave Cream from eShave is formulated especially for normal to dry skin, and is designed to help soothe your skin post-shave.
What makes it different from other regular moisturizers? It’s really concentrated with shea butter, aloe, and antioxidant vitamins, and it penetrates easily. So your skin will be quickly soothed after you shaved! I tried the Almond After Shave Cream on my legs and was impressed with the consistency of the cream, and how soft my legs were afterward. The almond scent is also really delicious and reminds me of almond desserts, but it doesn’t linger on your skin so you don’t have to worry about that.
The After Shave Cream is also available in a Cucumber scent (for normal to sensitive skin) and White Tea (suitable for all skin types). Check it out at eShave.com, where it retails for $22.
We heard from our friends at the W Hotels that the new Hoboken property opened recently to great acclaim. I haven’t been yet but have already heard a lot of buzz about The Chandelier Room, the new area hotspot created by the EMM Group of Meatpacking’s Tenjune fame.
One of my favorite things to do is look up pictures of new and pretty spaces, hence making our dining & nightlife section one of my favorites on the site. My curiousity about The Chandelier Room set me on a Googling spree that uncovered the portfolio of their design team: ICRAVE. As it turns out, they are the creative brains behind some of TDO editors’ favorite spots including: STK, One Sunset, Koi, and Tenjune among others. They also did the W VIP Lounge (above) for the last couple New York Fashion Weeks- where I was practically every day in between the shows. Anyone who has flown through JetBlue’s new Terminal 5 in JFK will also recognize ICRAVE’s stylish work.
I’ve been hearing that the Chandelier Room is especially amazing so I’ll be reporting back after I head over for drinks next week. In the meantime, if you’re looking for design inspiration like me, check out the gorgeous photos on their site.
Tech got even sexier last night as the fashionable crowd descended upon a private space to celebrate the launch of the new T-Mobile Sidekick LX. While this phone launches in May, party goers had the chance to play with the prototypes scattered around the rooms. My friend Wendy over at Nitrolicious gave up her trusty BlackBerry the second she got there (as I discovered by frantically trying to BBM her as I was heading over, to no avail) and spent the entire night tweeting the play by play from her Sidekick. The verdict? Pretty cool and it comes with great twittering abilities.
On any given (week)night in New York, there are at least 2 or 3 parties on my radar but a lot of them end up being pretty blah. Occasionally, there’s a really fun fashion fete but mostly it’s too much of a parade of “who’s who.” Not to mention, any possible cute guy you spot surely has his eye on the models mingling about to pay you any attention. So it was pretty refreshing to head over to a tech party instead where the techies, geeks, media crowd, fashionistas and the cool kids all co-mingle without the pressure of figuring out which bouncer you have to sweet talk to get into the VIP area. The other big change I noticed? No one is scared to eat! I, too, joined the crowd and got in line to make myself a heap of nachos. There was also a hot dog stand and three bars in addition to the obligatory presentation of chichi h’orderves passed around by male models. (more…)

I’m sure founder Emily Koteff didn’t quite have this in mind, but StripTeas is my favorite new…office gear. It’s true – I’m loving the uniquely packaged, delicious tea strips (love a good play on words too), and it looks so cute and fits right in with the rest of my colorful desk decoration. Plus, it provides a nice (and often necessary) pick-me-up at various points throughout the workday – say when my computer crashes or when people are sending me super annoying emails.
I love that I don’t have to deal with the mess of tea bags and being able to swirl the tube in my cup. According to StripTeas, that actually makes the tea taste better because it allows the leaves to move about and the flavor to come out. These are certainly some of the tastiest teas I’ve had, so they must be right! Plus, my coworkers are always asking me what I’m drinking and equally impressed by the clever packaging. Check out the 7 flavor variety pack for $12.95. They were all so yummy I couldn’t pick a favorite! TDO readers use code dailyobsession20 to receive 20% off and free shipping!
I’ve always heard great things about Ojon and their Restorative Hair Treatment, so when I got the opportunity to try out their new Tribal Indulgences Batana line, I jumped at the chance. Batana is Ojon’s first collection that’s dedicated exclusively to bath and body. Says Denis Simioni, the company’s founder, “Ojon’s evolution is a natural process as we continue discovering unique tribal remedies in the rainforest for everything from chapped lips to dry skin. We thought it only fitting that our first body collection reflects the legacy of the brand by containing our highest concentration of Ojon oil for skin.” (more…)
