Sneak Peek from the Louis Vuitton Showroom

If  I took away anything from my recent visit to the Louis Vuitton showroom, it’s that despite the harsh realities of the real world, theirs is a fairy tale universe full of extravagant opulence for Fall 2009.  I felt like I had stepped into a Baroque fantasy land, surrounded by copious amounts of gold threading, lace, jewels and beads.  Marc Jacobs, who I feel usually produces such feminine, wearable pieces chose a more avant-garde route for this collection.  In fact, two of the more questionable pieces at the recent Met Gala worn by Madonna and Leighton Meester, were both Louis Vuitton (I saw them at the showroom!).  But it’s not all extreme fashion there, below we found some of our favorites among the fancy lot. Style, Meet Sound

Cross designer collaboration is nothing new but Roxy’s partnership with JBL created such a splash that all of New York’s A-List socialites came out to the Red Bull Space to celebrate the launch, which Vanity Fair listed as one of the top 3 parties from around the globe Tuesday night. We agree with VF that DJ style is definitely hot right now and think that Roxy/JBL’s neon on-ear headphones would look pretty foxy worn around the streets of New York City.  At the party, we caught sight of socialites Fabiola Bercasa, Byrdie Bell, Derek Blasberg, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, and Genevieve Jones as well as Erin Lucas from The City and Misshapes DJ turned model, Leigh Lezark. Insider’s Obsessions: Paige Adams Gellar

Paige Adams Gellar is what we would call a legend in the world of denim. As most of you know, she is the founder of Paige Premium Denim, legendary brand that women around the world adore. Paige launched the line after being a fit model for many years, realizing that women are shaped differently – and thus, her line aims to “will lift the derriere, lengthen legs and slenderize hips and thighs.” Celebrities such as Gisele Bunchen, Rachel Bilson and Gwenyth Paltrow (among may others), as well as regular women such as ourselves, own pairs. So what is Paige obsessing over this month? Find out by reading below! (more…)

Snoozer But Not A Loser

Snoozer Loser is an indie brand that I’ve wanted to post about for some time now, but has remained in my “bookmarked” files until now. I was recently reminded about them and took a look at their spring collection, which set my heart aflutter.

In particular, I became enchanted with the Celeste Top, a lovely silk flowy top with loose ruffles at the sleeves. I am totally loving the romantic, yet casual look of this blouse. Paired with a pair of wide legged denim, you’d get a super retro look – or go with a flowery a-line mini for a modern boho vibe. Seriously gorgeous! (And while I’m at it, I’ll also take the Sue Young Top to layer underneath – or to wear by itself this summer.)

Retails for $90. To order, visit www.snoozerloser.com – and for a limited time only, use code “SP09″ for 20% off the spring collection (excludes accessories).

TDO Interview: Tim Quinn

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of having Armani Beauty’s Celebrity Face Designer and National Director of Creative Artistry, Tim Quinn, do my makeup for an event.  Tim has been with Armani Beauty since the line launched in September 2001.  Almost a decade later, it has become one of the most luxurious cosmetics brands even within the prestige market, and in no small part due to Tim’s leadership.  When I first met him, I wasn’t sure what our rapport would be like but Tim mixes his celebrity stature with a such a generous dose of warmth and practicality that we were Facebook buddies within the hour. Over conversations of mascara and the Met, I snuck in a few questions for an exclusive TDO interview.  Below are his answers: (more…)

Marais Shoes

Marais USA is a shoe brand that’s been all over the web in the last few months – and thus, been on my radar.  They officially launched their e-shop on Monday and made their shoes available for purchase, so I though it was perfect timing to tell you about this new line – and I’m so thrilled to do so. Bobbi Brown Nautical Collection

This summer, Bobbi Brown is all about sheer splashes of color with her new Nautical Collection. Beauty in the summer is lighter and more natural-looking, which the sheer shades in this collection definitely achieve. “They’re wearable, easy, and look good on everyone,” Bobbi says. The Nautical Collection has a Sheer Color Cheek Tint and Sheer Color Lip Gloss that are light and translucent, but I adore the juicy tones of the hues.

The Sheer Color Gloss in Marina Pink looks dark in the packaging, but comes off as a gorgeous, natural pink on my lips. The shine, combined with the ripe color, makes it look almost lip stain-esque. This gloss makes your lips look kissable and juicy! The Cheek Tint gives your cheeks a natural flush with just one swipe. The Sheer Coral color gave my cheeks a perfect glow. The gloss and cheek tint give all the color you need for a great summer look.

Bobbi didn’t forget to include a way to accentuate your eyes in this collection – check out the new Perfectly Defined Mascara. I’m obsessed with the formulation of this mascara. It truly defines and lengthens each of your lashes for a more natural looking extension. This is key for someone with sparse eye lashes like me, in order to avoid a spidery looking, unnatural mess. Plus, all you need is warm water to wash it right off. No more late night grappling with makeup remover!

The Nautical Collection is sheer and colorful, just ideal for the summer. Find out more about it in Bobbi’s own words in this video and visit bobbibrowncosmetics.com.

Eating Clean in NYC

Editor’s Note: This guest post today is brought to you by our friend Jennifer from YogaDeals. As you can tell by her blog name, Jennifer is the go-to person for yoga and fitness tips, the best deals, and cheapest happy hours (ok, you can’t really tell about that one, but we know from experience).  She’s also been a  lifelong health nut thanks to her mom serving her whole wheat bread back when no one even knew what that was. Today she shares a cheap find that helps you locate delicious and healthy food in Manhattan for locals and visitors alike.

In New York, each neighborhood is blessed with a variety of cuisines and price points on every block. But when it comes down to it, New Yorkers are not exactly known for their ‘home cooking.’ Instead they have been given the unique gift of enjoying the tasty fruits of some of the world’s most amazing culinary artists. Sadly, tastiness usual comes with a guilt-ridden calorie count, and now with obesity (and vanity) levels rising, even New Yorkers, the very ambulatory society, are still looking for healthier options that don’t require a cooking class.

BanQ Boston’s Anniversary & Award Party

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the one year anniversary party and celebration of achievement for BanQ, a contemporary French/Asian fusion restaurant in Boston’s South End. Within the past couple of years, the South End has sprouted with new eclectic restaurants; however, what makes BanQ so noteworthy is not limited to their delicious food, but their award-winning interior design. Thus, this celebration was in combination with Wallpaper Magazine, who awarded BanQ with their “best new restaurant” award in 2009.

The party’s attendees included Boston area public relations professionals, beauty insiders, and interior designers among others. I brought my friend and coworker, Leighann Farrelly, who is the Director of Marketing in Boston for Yelp.com. I knew this party was right up her alley, and she was more than enthused to attend! Before mingling and chatting, we hit up the bar, where they were featuring four delicious-sounding cocktails. We both opted for the Deerhunter, BanQ’s version of a gingery-mojito, concocted with Goslings Bermuda Rum, ginger beer, blood orange puree, mint, and lime. This cocktail was strikingly similar to a cocktail I’ve requested at Drink multiple times. Perhaps I’ve started a Boston cocktail trend? (more…)

Philosophy’s Joyful Heart

I have the pleasure of going to a lot of events working here at TDO but very few match the significance of the Joyful Heart Gala, which I attended a couple weeks ago as a guest of philosophy.  Joyful Heart Foundation is a philanthropy founded by Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay whose mission is to help survivors of child abuse, sexual abuse, and domestic violence through providing programs, guidance and support. The gala, hosted by Hargitay and her friend Debra Messing was inspiring but at the same time jarring and eyeopening.  Supporters of the cause who were in attendance included Hilary Swank, Chris Meloni, Marcia Gay Harden, Peter Hermann, Ice T and Julianna Margulies.  It was awe inspiring to be seated so close to these stars who so passionately supported the message of Joyful Heart.
