Summer With Chanel

The best part about the weather getting so hot here in Los Angeles is that it means that all the summer makeup collections are now available.  (It’s the main reason I love this time of year!)  Chanel’s new summer collection for 2009, Cote d’Azur, is a fantastic mix of browns and bronzes, with more vibrant shades of peaches, pinks and reds added for accents.  It’s a fairly large collection, so I’m going to give you my highlights.

One of my favorite products from the collection is the Soleil Tan De Chanel.  It’s a loose bronzing powder that I’ve been brushing on after I apply my foundation.  I’ve tried a ton of bronzers and I really like this one – it’s not heavy, so it doesn’t look look fake or unnatural.  It just makes me look like I’ve spent the weekend at the pool and gives me a glowy sort of appearance that gives me a nice base for the rest of the colors in the collection to build on.icon

The Lumieres Facettes Iridescent Effects Eyes in Plein Soleil is a limited edition shadow quad that I know I’ll be wearing all summer long.  The shimmery shades vary from bronze and copper to peach and gold – they’re all simple shades that are totally wearable, but they have such a gorgeous sparkle to them that I can’t stop reaching for the compact.  (And the nice thing about the shades is that they can be layered in so many different ways, you can easily use them lightly during the day and more intensely at night, so it’s a very versatile purchase).icon

I can never have too many lip glosses and the Aqualumiere Glosses are amazing.  (If you haven’t tried any of Chanel’s glosses, you really must treat yourself to one.  They’re not cheap, but you definitely get your money’s worth because you’ll find yourself constantly reaching in your bag to apply it).  They last a long time for glosses, they’re super shiny, and the colors are to die for.  The summer collection has three new shades in it – Cherry Blossom, Tangerine Dream and Ginger Shimmer.  I honestly don’t think I could pick a favorite out of the group – they all add a pop of color to the look and make my lips stand out in a fun, summery kind of way.  (And as a bonus, they’re very moisturizing, so your lips won’t dry out when you wear them).icon

For most of the year, I really like wearing dark shades on my fingernails, but during the summer, I try to switch it up to softer colors.  Both of the shades Chanel introduced in this collection are totally chic and pretty.  My favorite is Orange Fizz, a coral shade that’s bright without being shockingly so – it would look equally good on fingers as toes.  The other new color, Golden Sand, is a shiny copper that I’m definitely going to be bringing to my next manicure.icon

These are just a few of my favorites from Chanel’s extensive summer collection.  It’s available now on counters and Nordstrom.com or at Chanel.com, so check it out!icon
