Beauty, Interviews, MakeupTDO Interview: Tim Quinn

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of having Armani Beauty’s Celebrity Face Designer and National Director of Creative Artistry, Tim Quinn, do my makeup for an event.  Tim has been with Armani Beauty since the line launched in September 2001.  Almost a decade later, it has become one of the most luxurious cosmetics brands even within the prestige market, and in no small part due to Tim’s leadership.  When I first met him, I wasn’t sure what our rapport would be like but Tim mixes his celebrity stature with a such a generous dose of warmth and practicality that we were Facebook buddies within the hour. Over conversations of mascara and the Met, I snuck in a few questions for an exclusive TDO interview.  Below are his answers:

The Daily Obsession:  What are you most proud of working at Armani? Why did you pick this brand over all the others?
Tim Quinn: I was recruited to GA when the US was launching in 2001. I have always admired Mr. Armani’s aesthetic and upon meeting with the beauty team knew that I wanted to be a part of this amazing launch. The products are genius – as is the Maestro – I am always amazed and honored to work with Mr. Armani in some of the most exotic locations across the globe.

TDO:  What is one beauty product every woman must own?
TQ: The perfect foundation – this is my obsession when doing store personal appearances.  We have incredible choices – and I find that many women enjoy having a wardrobe of foundations to suit their needs – Face Fabric for weekends, Luminous Silk for day wear, LSUV for high-stress days and Designer when you need extra coverage and support.

TDO: What is one beauty trick every woman should start implementing right this second?
TQ: I am an advocate of using color corrector in conjunction with concealer to brighten the under eye area – our Pink Color Corrector helps to instantly diffuse the darkness on the inner corners of the eyes. And the new Crema Nera Eye Cream is so excellent – I advise women to keep this in their handbags and use over their makeup during the day. Tap lightly onto outer ocular bone to brighten and refresh the eye!

TDO: Of all the awards and accolades bestowed upon you, what do you consider your greatest honor?
TQ: Hollywood Style Award – Beauty Tsar 2008. It’s also one of the highlights of my career because I was to receive the award in 2007 and was diagnosed with cancer. The ensuing year of chemo/radiation and surgeries made my return all the more special

TDO: On the other hand, your most embarrassing moment?
TQ: Years ago I made an appearance on the Today Show for another beauty company thinking I was going to be dressed in a silver suit to promote the Mercurio Collection – only to arrive on set and learn that the silver suit was basically a costume that was like a second skin and made me look like the Greek god Mercury – or the FTD guy – thankfully this was before the days of Youtube….

TDO: Of all the places you travel to, what is your favorite and why?

TQ: Venice – the enchanted city – I feel as if I am transported in time – and love the feeling of always being lost:)

TDO: And what else are you obsessed with besides makeup?
TQ: my current obsessions….Chinese Deco rugs, the Beach, True Blood, spiritual beads and acupuncture….

    HI Tim,
Great Interview. Keep doing the wonderful job that you do. I used to be a Stage Make-up Artist years ago and seeing all of the beautiful Make-up brings back memories.

    Take care,
