A New Twist on the Smoky Eye
I love to do a good smoky eye for a night out, but sometimes I get bored of using the same black and grey shades. I try to switch it up by going with browns and bronzes sometimes, but that doesn’t always satisfy my need for something different.
If you’re the same way, I suggest you check out Kat Von D’s new True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Gypsy. The eight shadows are made up mainly of those in the green family, ranging from light to dark, and they all compliment each other nicely, so you can smudge them together for a dramatic and unusual effect. I think my favorite shade in the palette is Gunner – it’s a dark, jewel-like emerald color that has a gorgeous sparkle to
it. The palette also includes Lucifer, a matte black shade that looks great smudged along the lash line, and my other favorite,Brass Knuckles, a gold cream shadow that looks fantastic as a highlighter. Before I saw this palette at Sephora, I probably never would’ve played around with doing a green smoky eye, but it works surprisingly well.
I’ve been pairing the palette with Kat’s Autograph Eyeliner in Black Metal Love. I freely admit that I’m awful with liquid liner, but I’ve been practicing a lot because I really want to get better and this matte black shade is a great liner to use with a smoky eye because it has tiny pieces of silver glitter in it that really catch the light in a dramatic fashion. I like the brush on it as well – it seems to give me a straighter line than other ones I’ve tried, making it look less like a kindergartner did my makeup. Now I’m dying to try the Brass Knuckles shade in that as well. Sigh… Who knew a tattoo artist would make such great makeup?
