Accessories, Cheap & Chic, Fashion, Home, IntimatesCheap & Chic: June 2009

ONE. Eberjey Lady Godiva Chemise — This Eberjey Lady Godiva chemise scrapes in at just under $3 under the $50 limit to be qualified for the Cheap & Chic list. Made out of soft modal jersey, its ideal sleep wear for the balmy summer nights with its flowy material. A combination of sexy and casual, with its figure hugging fit and lace scalloped edges, this chemise makes it a luxury to lounge and do nothing around the house. It is cut with delicate lace straps and a V necked close fit bodice shortly flaring out to mid thigh. The fit of the chemise is very Elizabeth Taylor a la Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but infinitely more practical (and thrifty), conveniently machine washable, and at $47, qualifies as affordable nightwear. - Kathleen

TWO. Free People Champagne Flower Headband – I’ve always wanted to rock the headband a la Blair Waldorf, but I’m not really in the market for $100+ hair accessories. That’s why I really love Free People’s collection of headbands and hair clips because they’re affordable and stylish. The Champagne Flower Headband in Gold is my favorite for its flapper-esque appeal. The band itself is elastic and the pretty flower is adorned with a sparkly sequin center. It would look amazing with your cutest LBD or top with dark wash jeans. For only $20, you can pick one up in black as well without breaking the bank! - Nina

THREE. Old Navy Floral Cut-Out Sundress — As we mentioned earlier this month, white dresses are the item to have in your wardrobe for summer.  My personal pick this month is this adorable white Old Navy frock. The light simple silhouette is balanced with a bit of sweetness from the delicate floral cutout along the neckline. At just under $30, this is a great buy that can be worn all summer long – from the backyard BBQ to a beach picnic. - Connie

FOUR. The Elegant Setting Natural Bamboo Cocktail  Forks and Spoons — No one does entertaining in classier American style than those  summer pool parties in the Hamptons (barring that Samantha cantaloupe incident at Richard’s house on SATC).  Cute guys and girls dressed in their summer best, eating, drinking, and flirting in the evening breeze.  Ok, so maybe you don’t have a party deck that looks like this (or maybe you do) but don’t let that stop you from bringing a bit of that elegant Hamptons style to your own fetes this summer.  Table linens and accessories from Southampton based The Elegant Setting adds a luxurious touch to any event. My pick?  Their Natural Bamboo cocktail forks and spoons, perfect for anything from oysters to creme brulee. A set of 6 costs only $26 and elevates the feel of any party from summer-share to beach-front-property.   Carolyn

FIVE. Friday Night Lights DVD — For those of you who aren’t already watching “Friday Night Lights,” the only thing I can say is – what are you waiting for? Over the last three years, it’s managed to replace “My So-Called Life” as my favorite drama of all time – a position it held for over 15 years. FNL is just an all around fantastic show – fantastic writing, great acting, storylines that will leave you anxiously awaiting the next episode, and best of all, Taylor Kitsch as Tim Riggins. He’s so ridiculously good-looking that I first dismissed him as a pretty boy, but over the course of the show, he’s totally won me over with his acting, too. (He might’ve even made me cry at the end of an episode this season. And I’m not even embarrassed about it!) If you’re already watching the show, the third season was just released on DVD and you can grab it for a very affordable $18.99 at Amazon. (And if you haven’t been watching, the first two seasons are also available at great prices). I can’t recommend the show enough – it’s been renewed for another two seasons starting this fall and I’m already anxiously counting down the days. Texas, forever! (You’ll understand once you start watching). - Stacey

It’s SUCH a good show. I just rewatched the pilot last night and there were so many little details I forgot. Just love it!
