Momofuku Milk

My discovery of Momofuku Milk is about 6 months too late after moving into my new apartment.  This has had its benefits and disadvantages: its allowed me to have a fighting chance to even getting into summer body condition, but on the other hand, I’ve lived in oblivion not knowing that Momofuku Milk’s creamy soft serve, dense cakes, and unique cookies were only a block away.

Momofuku Milk is the bakery outpost to James Beard nominated chef, David Chang’s, famed restaurant, Momofuku Ssam.  After a delicious and filling meal involving every delicious usage of pork at Momofuku Ssam, venture next door to Milk for your sweet fix.

Try any of the 4 unique soft serve flavors, which rotate on a consistent basis.  I’ve gotten a chance to sample all of the “milk” flavors (Lucky Charms, Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Puffs etc.), which were inspired by the taste of the sugary leftover milk at the bottom of your cereal bowl.   Most recently, they had “candy” flavors including sour gummy, red licorice, red fireball, and mint chocolate.  Apart from the special flavors, the real draw for the soft serve is the creamy and concentrated taste that are spot-on for their non-ice cream counterparts.

My other favorite is the cornflake marshmallow chocolate chip cookie, which is a soft blend of crunchy flakes, bits of semi-sweet chocolate, and gooey marshmallow.  The cookies are the perfect texture, being soft in the middle and slightly crispy on the edges.

There are also a variety of distinctive layer cakes, such as the banana cake, a blend of banana cake, banana cream, hazelnut crunch, gianduja fudge or the pistachio cake, with pistachio cake, lemon curd, milk crumbs, and pistachio buttercream.

Momofuku Milk also serves some savory snacks including the famed pork buns that Momofuku is famous for, along with a selection of breads, such as the chinese foccacia, chorizo challah and others.

Momofuku Milk is located at the corner of 13th and 2nd Avenue, at 207 Second Avenue.  View a sample menu here.
