Dining & Nightlife, Hotels, New York, TravelWeekend in Montauk

Happy Friday! I feel like I’ve been out to the Hamptons more in the past three weeks than the last three years combined! I was recently telling some of  my editor friends that I feel as if one in two party invites these days take place out East – not that it’s a bad thing – I love myself some sun, beach, and clean air!

But I’ve been avoiding the clubbing scene.  Seeing that I haven’t even been to Pink Elephant in the City in years, I’ve had very little desire to hit up their Southampton location.  Partying in the Hamptons can be as sceney and attitude ridden (if not more) than your typical Friday night in Manhattan, so there’s really no reason for me to log an additional 6 hours total of travel time to get there.  So last weekend when my best friend was visiting, I chose to take her out to Montauk instead for a weekend at the Yacht Club to experience the East End as it’s meant to be – posh, pristine, comfortable, with friendly service and a guaranteed relaxing time. Dining & Nightlife, Hotels, International, TravelFour Nights in Ocho Rios

When I told people that I was staying in Ocho Rios for a few nights during my trip to Jamaica, most were already somewhat familiar with the city. It is a popular stop for many Caribbean cruises, so a lot of people tend to roam the town for a day and then leave at night. That’s too bad for them, because there is so much more to Ocho Rios than being a cruise stop. Ochi, as it’s called, has a distinctive culture and character all its own and is just 2 to 2.5 hours away from the airport in Montego Bay. I spent an amazing 4 nights there and now I’ve got the low down on everything you should do during your own visit.

If you want a unique, exclusive experience, then there’s only 1 place to stay: the Jamaica Inn. We wanted to avoid large, generic all-inclusives, so the Jamaica Inn was perfect. It is a hotel that is steeped in history, with past guests like the glamorous icon Marilyn Monroe, and even British dignitaries (including Winston Churchill). It’s absolutely amazing that they saw the same, virtually unchanged, beautiful view that you see above of a lush lawn and gorgeous sandy beach. There are employees here that have worked at the Jamaica Inn for over 40 years, and guests know them by name. It’s truly a classic, romantic destination. READ MORE

Beauty, Spas & SalonsAccent Your Body – Session 1

Last week I paid my first visit to Sleek MedSpa in New York’s Upper East Side with hopes that their  Accent Your Body treatment could tighten up my upper body and leave me with Park Avenue worthy arms.  All summer, I’d hoped to wear my new strapless dresses, only to be deterred by the reflection in the mirror and that highly irritating excessive fat that spilled over the top of the dresses just a little too much.

Many women I know also have this problem and despite all the free weights I do, I seem just to build muscle without burning off any of the fat that lies on top of it (and therefore, just makes my arms look even bigger!)  I also noticed that I just have fairly loose skin in my underarms so I went in for the first of a series of treatments to try to address this problem. Eco & Organic, Fashion, Fitness & HealthPrancing Leopard

Editor’s Note: A couple weeks ago I went on a day long  yoga/raw food/Blueprint Cleanse retreat to Southampton with my friend  Jennifer. As we changed into our yoga clothes, Jennifer put on the cutest lavender onesie that everyone was oohing over. So of course I asked her to do a little guest post for TDO, and it turns out- there’s a lot more than what just meets the eye.

With all of the ultra-high tech fabrics in yoga garb these days, it’s nice to find a line that is breaking from the lulu-standard. Enter Prancing Leopard Organics, active wear that’s made with super soft, organic cotton for the fashion-forward, exercise enthusiasts among us. In fact, founders, Bert and Sevda Holland, are committed to sustainability, using 95% hand-harvested fibers and giving back to the community.

Comfortable and functional, the newly launched line of Prancing Leopard Organics apparel includes a fresh new take on workout clothes, including jumpsuits and harem pants, that infuse styles which can easily be worn on casual, non-gym days too. I had the pleasure of lounging poolside as well as partaking in a yoga and pilates class all the while wearing the Aix-en Provence Jumpsuit. I will admit, this was my first time sporting harem pants and I didn’t know how I would feel about them, especially in a yoga class, but to my pleasant surprise, it felt like I was wearing a maxi dress, as it is free-flowing and not restricting, but with the ease that pants allow for athletic activity. I actually enjoyed the comfort-factor so much, that I wore the jumpsuit the entire day instead of changing back into my sundress. The lime green lining and pockets were added details that I  appreciated. READ MORE

Beauty, SkincareMist Me, Peel Me

Givenchy recently launched a few products in their skincare line to help your skin beat the heat. Is there anything better on a hot summer day than a cooling mist? Well, how about a cooling mist that moisturizes your skin, too? Mist Me Gently is a mist that relaxes and moisturizes your face instantly. The spray itself is a very fine mist that is light and fresh. It has a complex packed with lotus for anti-stress effects and hyaluronic acid to keep your skin from drying out in the high temperatures. You can use it under or over your makeup, or just to freshen up.

To keep your skin smooth and glowing, try the Peel Me Perfectly scrub. It’s actually pretty gentle for a scrub, but provides “tri-performance”–smoothness, radiance, and purity. There is even a clay extract that helps to cleanse and tighten pores. I’m a firm believer in giving your skin the right seasonal care, and these 2 products definitely work!

Accessories, JewelryCharmed We’re Sure

We were so enchanted by designer Jami Rodriguez‘s line of jewelry, specifically her Charmed Ribbon collection, that we just had to post about it! The Charmed collection mixes gorgeous silk ribbon and gold-plated charms for an unexpected but colorful piece.  “I have been very into silk lately, so when I found this gorgeous silk ribbon, I knew I had to find a way to incorporate it into a collection. I wanted this collection to be simplistic, yet whimsical. By mixing the little charms with the bold bubble detail, I think I accomplished this look!”

More specifically, we were absolutely charmed by the ribbon wraps (our favorites are the Peach Paris Ribbon Wrap and Green Lock Ribbon Wrap).  Each wrap features a 24k gold plated charm and bubbly pendant in combination with a luxurious silk ribbon, measuring 30 inches. You can wear them multiple ways, which we all know is so important in this economy. “I have also been trying to create more and more pieces that are convertible,” says Jami. “This wrap can be worn a multitude of ways – wrapped around the wrist, double wrapped around the neck as a choker or tied once and left as a longer necklace. But I think my favorite way to wear it is around the head…so romantic!”
