After Sun Rescue
Ladies and gents, I’m ashamed to say that I got sunburnt a couple weekends ago. It was unintentional, mind you – but still, unacceptable in my beauty book. The only good thing that resulted was that I actually got to test out some post-suncare products we receive, but that I never have a chance really use. (The last time I got sunburnt? Can’t even remember!) I really had forgotten how much I hated getting sunburnt. There are several elements about a sunburn that I detest: 1) the obvious bright pink hue 2) the achy, sensitive skin 3) the constant warm temperature 3) the itchy, scratchy peeling of skin that can occur 4) the uneven tan lines (which I thankfully avoided this time) and 5) knowing I’ve damaged my skin. And I don’t even really like the fact that I get that deeply tanned look afterward, much preferring a paler skin tone overall.
In response, I really try to minimize the impact of the above damage. So what product did I use to fight back? Clinique’s After Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe! This oil-free moisturizing body balm definitely helped alleviate some of my concerns. It has aloe, which as we all know, helps cool and calm skin. This product also has micrococcus lysate, which is an ingredient that helps repair free radical damage that has just been done to your skin.
The balm comes in a bright yellow sunny tube, and the balm itself is a pale blue hue. It sinks in easily, so if you apply post-shower, you can put on clothes right away. The balm has a slight cooling effect that totally takes away some of the heat from the burn. It also helps to alleviate any sensitivity you may be experiencing. After using this, I also never peeled, which is pretty miraculous. (Even more so? My boyfriend whose neck somehow got burnt to crisp – I’m talking lobster-hued burn – also never peeled with twice-a-day application.) I slathered this onto my sunburn and three days later, I was almost 100% recovered. I can truly say that I haven’t ever come across another post-sun product that was as effective as this one. This is definitely going to be my go-to post-sun product from now on!
Retails for $20. Available at Clinique.com, Nordstrom.com and Dillards.com.

I’ll have to give this a try. I inadvertantly get a little burned at least once every summer (a curse of Irish skin). I currently have Korres Yoghurt Cooling Gel and I love it, but I’m always open to trying new products!
