Afterglow

I thought I’d heard of everything, but I have to admit, massage candles were something that I’d been completely unaware of until I was sent the info on Jimmyjane’s Afterglow Natural Massage Oil Candles. It’s such an interesting concept, I can’t believe no one’s thought of it before. The directions are very simple – like any other candle, you light the wick and enjoy the scent for awhile. If you also decide that you want to use it as a massage oil, you need to let it burn for at least 30 minutes (enough time to let the wax melt to the container’s edge). Once it’s done that, you blow out the candle and then apply the warm wax to your body. You can do this in two different ways – either you tilt the container and drizzle it on, or you can use the body brush that’s included in the package to brush it on. (I chose this method because knowing what a klutz I am, it seemed much less likely to result in a spill).
When it first goes on, the wax is really slippery, like any oil, and you have to rub it into your body pretty vigorously (the same way all massage oils work). Once on, it moisturizes and softens your skin, leaving behind a body that’s touchable and relaxed. (The massage part might have something to do with that!) After you blow out the candle, the wax in the container stays liquid for a half an hour, so there’s plenty of time to dip your brush back in for more wax as you work.
Says Jimmyjane’s Founder and Creative Director Ethan Imboden, “All of our designs are created in-house, ensuring that every product in our collection is distinctly Jimmyjane. We have developed a proprietary blend of spa-grade ingredients that provides silky sensation at the prefect melting point; enabling us to deliver not only a candle of the highest quality, but also a uniquely sexy experience.”
The candles are available in 6 different scents – Cucumber Water, Dark Vanilla, Black Currant, Fig Leaf, Pink Lotus, and Bourbon. I tried Dark Vanilla and it was a really interesting scent; the warm, sweet vanilla was tempered with a smokier smell and something that reminded me of coconut. I love the scent and would definitely purchase the candle again. As far as the massage oil part, it’s definitely a great concept that works and something that I recommend all of you couples looking to try something fun and different think about trying. (I felt slightly silly using it on myself, but it was definitely interesting!)
Afterglow candles are $25. To read more about Jimmyjane products, check out jimmyjane.com.
