Colorful Fall

I know it’s only August, but now that all the fall collections are out (or on their way) I cannot wait for autumn. It’s the one season where I miss living on the east coast the most because out here in L.A., we don’t get crisp air and leaves changing – it’s mostly just more hot days and palm trees the same color they always are. This year I’m especially excited for fall makeup because I have yet to see a new collection that I don’t like. And one of my favorites is Urban Decay. It’s a HUGE collection with a ton of new products, so I’m going to highlight some of my must haves.
Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion has been a best-seller since it came out and now they’ve added even more Primer Potion goodness. For your face, there’s Compexion Primers in two versions – Brightening and Pore Perfecting. Out of the two, my favorite is Pore Perfecting. It gives my skin a matte texture and makes it look super smooth and flawless. The squeeze tube makes it easy to get the product out too – I find that with pump primer dispensers, I often get too much product out and it goes to waste, but with the squeeze tube, it’s easy to control the amount. My other favorite is the Eyelash Primer Potion. It’s great! You apply it before mascara and the tiny fibers in the formula cling to your lashes, making them look thicker and longer when you put your favorite mascara on top. Genius! There’s also a Lip Primer Potion which goes on before your color and gives you a foundation that will make your lipstick color apply smoother, last longer and stop it from fading or feathering. (I might need to pick this one up on my next trip to the mall).
There are three new lipsticks in the collection for fall. Out of the three, Naked is my favorite. It’s a creamy pink nude that balances out the dark shades in a smoky eye and looks great during the day. It’s a really pretty basic shade that would look great with almost every skin tone. The other two shades are dark and dramatic – Confession is a deep burgundy that took me a little practice applying, but once I figured out how to wear it, I fell in love. Fall is all about the darker lips that look out of place in the summer heat and this one is gorgeous. The third shade, Oil Slick, takes some getting used to. It’s a glossy black infused with microsparkle. It doesn’t look good on me by itself, but I’ve been experimenting with layering it with some other shades and I’m loving those results. On me, it looks really unique mixed with a hot pink, but you can definitely try some different color combos yourself if you want to stand out.
Purple is THE color for fall and Urban Decay is ahead of the curve with two of their new Deluxe Eyeshadows. Freakshow is a glimmering purple with a red sheen (the red isn’t very visible) and Frigid is a deep purple with a blue sheen. They’re both so, so pretty and they come in the most adorable artsy compacts. I’ve been using them alone or layering them with the other new shade, Ruthless, a neutral champagne, to make them pop even more. The colors are so pigmented that they don’t crease or fade all day – they’re definitely the shadows to put on if you know you’ll be out all night.
I’ve saved my favorite part of the collection for last. The new Ink for Eyes cream liners are the bomb. (See? That’s how much I like them. I’m willing to use a cheesy phrase that I could never pull off in person just to let you all know how great they are!) The liners come in a compact that looks almost like a little coffin – it’s very goth and cool looking. Inside, the cream liner is in one long strip of color with a double-sided applicator next to it. The brush is really nice for something that’s included with a product – usually those brushes are the worst, but this one has both an angled liner brush side and a smudger side, so it’s very useful. The cream liner itself comes in 6 shades, ranging from Zero (a dramatic black) to Pyrotechnics, described as an “iridescent sparkler.” My personal favorite is Empire, a deep purple that goes really well with their new shadows, but I think I might need to own them all because the formula is great. The liner is really creamy, so it goes on smoothly and easily (you don’t have to tug at your eyes to apply it) and it has a buildable coverage, so you can go as heavy or as light as you’d like. And best of all, it stays put all day without smearing around your eyes (my pet peeve in a liner). Love them!

I’ve been curious to see when UD would finally come out with new packaging for their eye primer, and while it took long enough, I must say that I like the look of the result. The eyeliner packaging is also so sleek and lovely . . . kinda makes me wish I used liner! I’m not a fan of UD (heavy sparkles in makeup just aren’t my thing) and it looks like I won’t be venturing out to look at this collection either. As someone who hates both purple eyeshadows and dark lips, I think this will be a long fall season for me.
