Dolce & Gabbana Makeup

Dolce & Gabbana recently launched their makeup line and we finally had a chance to try it out! The line reflects the Dolce & Gabbana philosophy of creating something feminine, glamorous and sensual. (The face of their campaign is Scarlett Johansson – so that should tell you what type of woman they’re appealing to.) The packaging for the products are sleek, gilded and gorgeous. Each item is truly like discovering a treasure, but none of that matters if the products aren’t good. So are they? Well, let’s first run through what their debut collection includes:
- The Lipstick – Classic Cream Lipstick
- The Lipstick – Shine Lipstick
- The Lipgloss – Ultra-Shine Lipgloss
- The Lipliner – Precision Lipliner
- The Eyeshadow – Smooth Eye Colour Quad and Smoother Eye Colour Duo
- The Eyeliner – Crayon Intense
- The Mascara – Volumized Lashes
- The Foundation – Perfect Finish Powder Foundation Wet or Dry
- THe Bronzer – Glow Bronzing Powder
- The Blush – Luminous Cheek Colour
- The Nail Lacquer – Intense Nail Lacquer
Dolce & Gabbana called in makeup artist extraordinaire Pat McGrath to help them develop this collection. So we had high expectations and they were definitely met. First we tested the Glowing Bronzing Powder in Sunshine, a sunkissed shimmer. We loved the gold compact, which felt heavy and luxurious in our hands. It comes in a black pouch with the brush on the outside pocket. The powder was fine and gave our cheeks the perfect glow – without getting too shimmery or orange.
The Shine Lipstick in Soiree was the next item we tried. We liked that it was semi-sheer, but still pigmented. Your lips will definitely appreciate the velvety smooth texture as you apply it. It has a light rose scent that’s really quite pleasant and what we’ve come to associate with luxury makeup brands these days. Soiree looks like a bright pearly coral in the tube, but comes out quite sheer — perfect for anyone who has wanted to try the shade but has been too intimidated.
Lastly, there’s the Intense Nail Lacquer with it’s sleek long bottle. We tried this in Dahlia, an intense deep burgundy – a signature color for the collection. What we discovered was an amazing polish that was fairly chip-resistant and more importantly, one of our favorite shades that we’ve tried in quite some time. (Note: the brush for the polish is a bit long, so we found that we had to test it out a bit before getting the hang of it.)

The packaging is SO glam – and even though the polish is a bit pricey, it looks bigger than most. Also, it only took two coats to achieve bottle color – and a week later, my nails have barely shown tip wear!

The nail polish is fabulous (but pricey). It has a real depth a color — perfect for fall clothes.
