Behind the Scenes at Loeffler Randall
Everyone knows that I’m totally obsessed with Loeffler Randall – and as a whole over here at TDO, we love the entire aesthetic of the brand. Check out the video above, which is a behind the scenes look at their FA09 photoshoot. They also recently launched e-commerce on their website, so that’s something you must check out as well! I’m already making a list of things to covet.
Yellow like Sunshine
These lemon drop initial necklaces are like bright dollops of sunshine on a cloudy day, with their vintage inspired 14k brass finish and deep, dense yellow color. I love the unique details of this version from Anthropologie, which are a mix between quirky and proper with the delicately etched initial on the cheerfully designed pendant and the loop and branch chain.
I had an obsession with initial necklaces when I was a child, and this one would have thrilled me to receive both as an adult and as a child. One of my favorite looks for vivid and a more subtly brilliant necklace like this, is to pair them with a simple, classic button down shirt. Luckily for me, the K is still available, but the more popular letters are selling out soon so visit Anthropologie to see if yours is still available.
Hi-Def Nails

During the summer, I love to wear bright shades of nail polish on my toes. The colors just look so great against a tan with sandals or flip-flops. This year, my pick are the colors in Sally Hansen’s HD High-Definition Nail Color line.
The 8 shades have real liquid crystals in them, which makes the finish super shiny, and the colors all seem to sort of change shade depending upon which angle you’re looking at them from, which is kind of cool. The bold shades are definitely designed to attract attention and probably aren’t for those people who want to fade into the background, but I find that it’s a nice way to add a little color to your outfits without having to spend a lot of money. Some of the shades are a little out there even for me; I personally don’t think that I could pull off Lite Frost, which is a bright yellow, but I’ll bet there are a lot of people out there who could make it look good.
My favorite shades are Digital Frost, Three D Frost and Hi-Res Frost, all shades in the pink-red-coral families. They all wear well and last a good amount of time without chipping, and best of all, you can find the entire collection at your local drugstore, so you won’t have to make a mad rush around town trying to hunt them down. Now I just have to decide which one of those three shades I’ll be choosing for my next pedicure and I’ll be all set…

La Mer Watches
While analyzing my closet recently as part of a Spring cleaning spree, I’ve recently realized that I have a dearth in accessories, so as a word of warning, you will be seeing a lot of accessory posts for me in the upcoming month as I re-claim that part of my wardrobe. My first step towards accessory buying are these La Mer watches, a great functional and stylish mix of a leather bracelet cuff, chain bracelet, and watch all in one.
A classic watch face in Roman numerals is set on a long, buttery piece of leather interwoven with a double set of delicate chains, that is designed to wrap multiple times around the wrist. The effect is a romantic mix of delicate and feminine, without looking bulky, and is the perfect, necessary addition to my new accessory collection. I envision wearing this to punch up simple outfits like a white tshirt and jeans. The only problem is that there are multiple version of this watch/bracelet combination, all featuring different colors and finishes of leather and different charms on the chains, so I don’t know which to choose.
Urban Outfitters is even offering the above pictured Spring Garden version on sale from its normal price of $95 for $59.99. Visit the La Mer website to see all of the possible versions and combinations.

Success is a Job in New York

No, the title of this post isn’t actual commentary from me. It’s the latest from Bond No. 9: Andy Warhol Success is a Job in New York, the latest in the Andy Warhol collection due to be released in October 2009. The bottle is adorned with a dollar sign created by Warhol in 1981, and the inspiration was from his first assignment as an illustrator in the ’50s–a Glamour magazine article titled, “Success is a Job in New York.”
I was sent a small sample of the scent, and I’m sure that Bond No. 9 has another hit on their hands. Success is unisex, and I’m more inclined to believe that over previous “genderless” scents like Brooklyn. On my skin, it came off as really warm and slightly spicy. The top notes are distinctively citrus and spice, but for me, what lingered longer were the warmer vanilla basenotes (which I prefer, I think). Would it work on a man? I think so, just from testing it on my boyfriend. On him I could really smell the citrus! Success is complex, like most Bond No. 9 fragrances, and sure to please. Look for it at Bond No. 9 and Saks come October, and keep reading for the note breakdown! (more…)

Makeup, Make-Off

Meet Make-Off–the makeup removing cloths from Alcone that are pretty much the best that I’ve used. I’ve tried a lot of makeup removers that are alternately too harsh and dry ut my skin, or other wipes that dry out themselves and don’t work. These wipes remove all my makeup effectively (and even all my eye makeup!), without leaving a slimy film behind. Instead, my face always feels fresh and clean afterward. I don’t even feel like I need to rinse afterward, because Make-Off feels pure against my skin. Perfect for those late nights when you just want to crawl into bed and sleep! Now you can take a minute before and make sure your makeup is all off.
Make-Off makeup removing wipes come individually wrapped, which make them ideal for travel as well. I packed 3 of them away in my bag on a recent weekend trip, and it was super convenient. A month’s supply (24) for me would just be $11, but you can buy them in other quantities on alconeco.com.
