Fall Nail Must-Haves

As much as I love the summer, I am so, so ready for fall.  I’m ready for sweater weather and chilly nights and the caramel apple cider at Starbucks.  (I think they actually might carry it year round now, but it just doesn’t feel right to be drinking it in 95 degree weather).  But most of all, I’m ready for all the new fall nail polish collections.  They’re full of dark, dramatic shades that will make your manicure stand out well into winter.  Here are the two collections that I’ve tried out so far:

The Sephora by OPI Film Noir collection adds six new colors to an already impressively large variety of shades.  I’m a huge fan of this brand – I probably have about twenty of their colors because they’re easy to apply, long-lasting, and with a good top coat, they don’t chip easily.  The formula also contains no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and at $9 a bottle, buying one won’t break your nail budget.  The new shades for the fall include:

Out of the six, my two favorites are Under My Trench Coat and In The Shadows.  Under My Trench Coat reminds me a lot of my polish obsession earlier this year, Metro Chic (also by Sephora by OPI).  Under My Trench Coat is lighter and has less of a purple tint to it, but grey remains a hot nail color this coming season and I’m loving this slight twist on my old favorite.  (The gold shimmer adds an especially gorgeous touch).  In The Shadows is a deep, dark chocolate brown that just screams “autumn” to me.

Another fantastic new collection is MAC’s Nail Trend F/W 09.  Created in a collaboration between MAC and nail guru Jin Soon, the colors are unexpected and interesting, the kind of shades that will have your friends asking, “Where’d you get that polish?”  The six shades, which are on MAC counters now, include:

Honestly, I can’t find a shade among these that I wouldn’t wear, so it’s hard to pick favorites, but I definitely haven’t seen colors like Dry Martini or Beyond Jealous before and that alone makes me want to wear them.  (In fact, Beyond Jealous is already in my bag to take to the salon tomorrow for my pedicure).  Cool Reserve is another gorgeous grey that everyone should own, and for those of you who like purple, you really can’t go wrong with For Fun.  I like the formula of these polishes as well.  They seem to wear better and longer than previous MAC polishes I’ve owned, and there’s also an Overlacquer and an Underlacquer to complete your manicure.  Like most MAC collections, they won’t be available forever and they’re selling out quickly, so definitely head over to your nearest MAC store or maccosmetics.com now to buy the ones that are catching your eye.

I can’t wait to purchase my fall nail colors.

My fall Starbucks obsession is their Pumpkin Spice Latte. It recently awaked my love of Pumpkin and I had to go to Sephora to pick up any Pumpkiny-scented products I could get my hands on. (Philosophy has a great shower gel duo with Pumpkin Muffin and Caramel Apple right now.)
I also recently bought Under My Trench Coat but haven’t tried it yet. Have you seen MAC’s Baby Goth Girl polish? Just snagged that yesterday and it’s to die for!

Oh yes, I’m well aware of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It’s delicious. I have to force myself not to stop at Starbucks or The Coffee Bean every day because their fall flavors are SO good. I haven’t seen any of the Style Black collection in person yet, but I’m dying to. Maybe tomorrow!
