New York Fashion Week SS10: Tibi

It definitely felt like spring at the Tibi RTW SS2010 show, with simply strappy dresses in pastel hues, which gelled nicely with a smattering of bright floral, silky slips and peg-leg trousers.

Clean and classic, the designer, Amy Smilovic, only accessorized with simple sandals, but didn’t spare the use of color, using bright red and turquoise throughout the collection in forms of jackets, pants and shorts, while pastel colored garments added a nice contrast.

Some of the pieces were reminiscent of the 1990s with dresses cut on the bias, and buttonless jackets, and I was brought back to a time when those styles were permanent fixtures in my wardrobe. Looks like they’re making a comeback!

Full collection can be seen here.

Sumptuous Color

Remember back when you were really young and colored mascara was all the rage?  Well unlike most of the fashion choices from that era, this one is making a welcome return.  Estee Lauder has introduced Sumptuous Color Bold Volume Lifting Mascara in five new shades – Amber, Amethyst, Garnet, Emerald and Sapphire.  When I first heard about them, I couldn’t imagine wearing them, but the gorgeous photos in their ads and online got me curious, so I got my hands on Garnet and Sapphire to give colored mascara a whirl, 2009 style.

The colors look very bright in the tubes, but they go on much more subtle – even the bold blue of Sapphire settles into a darker shade on my lashes.  (And Garnet goes on almost like an eggplant sort of color.)  I actually like them way more than I expected to.  (Don’t you love it when that happens?)  The formula goes on smoothly, making my lashes look much thicker, and the colors make them stand out a touch more, without being so noticeable that people start looking at me funny.  I thought that I would like the Garnet the most, but I really don’t think I could pick because I’m convinced that the Sapphire shade makes my green eyes look even greener.  Now I really want to try the other three shades and add them to my colored mascara collection.  Who ever thought that would be a sentence I’d find myself typing in 2009?

TDO Sponsored Giveway: The New Talbots

Some of you may remember a few weeks ago, we posted a mysterious campaign by Red Chair Confessionals for a mysterious brand.

As it turns out, the brand behind the mystery is none other than Talbots! It’s true, the same Talbots that had completely fallen off my radar since the day I convinced my mom to trade in her dowdy suits for something more fashionable.  Sure enough, a quick search shows that Talbot’s isn’t even mentioned on our site…not even one time!

So when I found out that Talbots had sponsored our post that day, I was curious and hit up their website. I learned that they had recently tried to rebrand as a shopping destination for the younger crowd, so I headed over to see how successfully they were doing this. Verdict? (more…)

Float Away with Soni & Cindy

I took a look at Soni & Cindy’s latest collection awhile back and bookmarked it – only to find it again this past weekend. I can’t believe I forgot to share because I really liked a bunch of the looks.  Here are two favorites:

First up is the Lucinda Dress, which is done in a beautiful silk georgette and printed with tiny bursts of white stars.  The adjustable strapped dress makes a subtle statement with the oversized bow in the front – so cute!  I also absolutely adore the ruffly Rita Top, which is also done in silk georgette  The pink and gray combo is so feminine, ethereal and pretty; the cinched waist will also make you appear slimmer.  This one I could see wearing year-round – under blazers, with mini-skirts, over jeans, etc. Go view the full collection at soniandcindy.com.

New York Fashion Week SS10: G-Star Raw

It was my second year in a row attending the G-Star Raw show, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites – thanks to its theatrical presentation, bumping, raucous soundtrack, and creative, urban looks that propel it beyond just a jeans company. I always leave thinking two things: “Where can I find the music used in the show?” and “When will that jacket be available in stores?”

Held again in the Hammerstein Ballroom, models literally emerged from out of nowhere in 1 of 5 slim cylinders, that reminded me of Jetsons teleportation devices. Unlike the slouchy and relaxed silhouettes we saw last Fall, looks this season were sharply and exquisitely tailored to the body, beginning with the first series of white, high waisted, suit inspired bathing suits, with crisp lapels and shoulder seams. The on point tailoring, beach whites, and maritime sapphire blues, combined with the 1920′s loosely rolled curled updos, sharp, pencil thin eyebrows, and scarlet lips, made me think that the inspiration was a Great Gatsby goes Riviera/Resort. Backstage Beauty SS10: Narciso Rodriguez

Inspired by the “Cool Sheik” look of Narciso Rodriguez’s SS10 pieces, makeup artist/ Shiseido’s Artistic Director, Dick Page, created a “reverse makeup” look. The models bore makeup that was slightly “dirty” and smudged. Here’s how to get the look + more photos: (more…)

Coco Before Chanel

Coco Chanel is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable names in fashion and of course, everyone here at TDO can’t wait to see the upcoming film about her life, Coco Before Chanel.  The lovely Audrey Tautou (one of our favorite French actresses) is perfectly cast – and of course, is also appropriately the face of Chanel N°5.  The fabulous Chanel reps sent over some behind-the-scenes photos and a sneak peek at their upcoming print advertising campaign with Ms. Tautou… we couldn’t resist sharing them with you!  View the numerous images behind the cut: (more…)
