When news came last year that Stella McCartney was branching out into lingerie, I thought the partnership was a no brainer. Stella’s naturally romantically inclined designs and her favorite color palette of midnight black, sexy nudes, and dusty pinks seemed perfectly suited to a lingerie collection. Looking through her Fall 2009 lookbook, I loved her vintage inspired, girly, and cozy looking collection. This was the type of lingerie that was meant to be lounged in, on cold winter nights with a blazing fire and a cozy cardigan(and preferably someone to share it with.)
I used to have days of the week underwear as a child as Stella McCartney has updated this childhood classic with her own cheeky, feminine take, with baby pink cotton/silk bikini briefs edged with frilly, crochet lace. A cute, cartoon fruit is imprinted on the front of each brief, for each day of the week, with curly cursive. The set is so popular that it is currently sold out on Net-A-Porter, but there are currently available sets on the Neiman Marcus website.
My other favorite from the collection are her boy short briefs, which in spite of the antique lace detailing, is cut with a modern high cut leg, and sheer lace pieces. Other remarkable details from her lingerie that make it a stand out, include detailed button panels on brassiere sides, contrast color edged piping, sleek peep keyholes in strategic places, and sharp tailoring.
