A MAC Halloween
In a moment of lameness, I almost proposed sitting this Halloween out because I couldn’t think of an original costume. Browsing the usual Ricky’s and online costume shops, I couldn’t find a single thing that I felt like being. Fortunately, my friends convinced (a.k.a peer pressured) me into considering otherwise, and I’ve been newly inspired by the American Apparel Halloween Ideas and by the amazing Halloween face charts from MAC, which only serve to remind that you shouldn’t forget about customizing your makeup to your costume!
Future Lady Gagas in a week, take notice and look at MAC’s interpretation of a Poker Face, with its Ace of Hearts look, featuring a card drawn over the eye and a heart shaped pucker. Part of a set of 21 looks, MAC harnessed the creative talents of their makeup artists worldwide, and asked them to come up with their best Halloween faces. In a contest that was voted by their peers, they came up with the best looks and shared step by step instructions of how to recreate the look, including the specific colors, products, and makeup techniques used.
All of MAC’s 21 looks and instructions are posted online on the MAC Facebook page, but y0u can also watch the Youtube Video above, to observe them re-create the Top 5 looks, which include the Ace of Hearts, FluttereyFly (a beautiful, widespread set of rainbow butterfly wings drawn eye to eye), She Goes Pop (a Benday Dots Roy Lichtenstein inspired look), Exotic Zea (a glamorous take on the zebra), and Spook Me Out (a high tech looking zombie). The instructions for all looks are printable, so you can bring them to your local MAC counter for some assistance in rendering some of the looks.
Read on below for the instructions specifically for the Ace of Hearts Look, which would also be a perfect complement to a Queen of Hearts costume:
1. Block out the eyebrows with MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer.
2. Sketch out the card shape around the eye…use an actual playing card to get the right shape and trace it with Fascinating Eye Kohl.
3. Fill in the card with Luna Cream Colour Base and cover with White Frost Eye Shadow.
4. Add card details with Blacktrack fluidline.
5. Cover face with Studio Sculpt Foundation.
6. Use Blacktrack Fluidline and Mystery Eye Shadow to create the ultimate smoky eye.
7. Add lashes to top and bottom of eye with Duo Adhesive.
8. Using Lasting Lust Pro Long Wear create a heart shape on the lips!
