Food, TravelCupcake Delivery from Georgetown

Whenever I travel, I always make an effort to investigate what cupcake eateries and bakeriea exist at my destination. I’ve literally organized cupcake crawls in Las Vegas and Portland, and looking forward to visiting many “cupcakeries” during my upcoming trip to San Francisco. I’ve heard so much about the cupcake scene in Washington DC, with the standout being Georgetown Cupcake. I’ve been dying to try them, but I rarely travel to DC, so when I read that Georgetown Cupcake was now offering shipping within the continental US, I knew I wanted them. Then, when I saw their seasonal flavors, I knew I NEEDED them, and now!

Georgetown Cupcake offers three different flavor packages for cupcake delivery, but seeing as I am a lover of anything pumpkin and cupcake, I went with the Seasonal Dozen: six Pumpkin Spice and six Chocolate Hazelnut cupcakes. Shipping cupcakes sounds a little precarious, since cupcakes are so delicate. “How could they ever survive being jostled and thrown around during shipment? And how in the world could the be bakery fresh upon delivery?”, I wondered. Well, I am thrilled (and revealed!) to say that my cupcakes arrived in perfect form; beautifully packaged, frosted, and even came with a insert about how to store my cupcakes!

The cupcakes were undoubtedly some of the best seasonal cupcakes I’ve ever had. Georgetown Cupcake bakes fresh daily and only uses the top-quality ingredients;  for instance, the Chocolate Hazelnut includes Valrhona chocolate in the cake and Callebaut for the ganache topping. Chocolate-based cupcakes are not typically my first choice, but I literally inhaled this one. The cake itself was super moist, which is very important in a cupcake without traditional frosting. The ganache topping was rich and luxurious, and the crunch from the caramelized hazelnuts was literally the icing on the cupcake.

As delicious as the Chocolate Hazelnut was, the Pumpkin Spice cupcake was the clear standout. This cupcake is insane. The cake itself is a beautiful shade of orange, with flecks of spice seen throughout. Sometimes pumpkin flavored baked goods can be overwhelming and borderline spicy; this was absolutely not the case. The cake was topped with maple buttercream frosting, whose texture was smooth yet substantial. Frosting can be tricky; sometimes it’s too airy and almost like mouse, and sometimes it’s too dense, gritty, and heavy. Georgetown Cupcake has the consistency perfected, and the cake/frosting ratio was perfectly balanced. I’ve never had maple-flavored frosting before, but it was sweet enough to be noticeable, but subtle enough to let the pumpkin spices be to stand on their own.

Long story short: Georgetown Cupcake is nothing short of awesome. The cupcakes themselves are scrumptious and delicious, and the fact they are able to ship them overnight within the continental 48 states, to arrive at your door bakery-fresh, is pretty amazing. Cupcake delivery from Georgetown Cupcake is a fabulous alternative to typical deliveries you’d procure for a birthday, holiday, or celebration. Georgetown Cupcake delivery can be placed here. I hope to travel to DC soon and experience everything Georgetown Cupcake has to offer in person! My mouth is already watering to try their Chocolate PB Swirl!

I’m heading up to Las Vegas in two weeks for my birthday and it would be awesome to celebrate with cupcakes! Any chance I could a copy of your Las Vegas cupcake crawl?

Janet- Three cupcake places that are close to one another are the Cupcakery, Cupcake Lane, and Mad Hatter cupcakes. Retro Bakery is THE BEST cupcake place in Vegas, but the furthest from the strip; however, totally worth going to!

I too work dangerously close to Georgetown cupcake, though luckily just enough of a walk away to keep me from making weekly trips there. Might have to stop in for these very soon though… :)

Phoebe’s Cupcakes (www.phoebescupcakes.com) just started nationwide delivery and they are quite a bit better than Georgetown.
