Insider’s Obsessions: Genevieve Monsma

As the beauty director of MORE Magazine, Genevieve Monsma dispenses monthly beauty advice to more than 1.3 million women. She has been covering the skin, hair, and makeup market for over a decade and has written about beauty for women of all ages. In addition to her tenure at MORE, she has been the beauty director at Shape Magazine, the deputy beauty director at Marie Claire, the beauty director at CosmoGirl, and the associate beauty editor at Redbook. Naturally, we jumped at the chance to interview this beauty veteran and find out what tops her must-have list!

ONE. Jo Malone Colognes in Vanilla and Anise layered with Nectarine Blossom and Honey — This combination smells kind of like a creamsicle with a twist. I think it sends out an approachable, warm vibe.

TWO. Laura Mercier Mineral Primer — Thanks to this pore- and line-erasing product I now skip foundation. A dime-sized drop makes my skin look smooth and even and it give my complexion a slightly matte finish, which I prefer.

THREE. Hair by Revitalash Hair Conditioner –I wear my hair pulled back in a knot or ponytail at least 50 percent of the time and have noticed some thinning along my hairline where I pull my strands tautest. Not sexy. So I started using Revitalash’s Hair Conditioner to stimulate hair growth. I’m a skeptic by nature, but this stuff works. I am seeing baby hairs where before there was just scalp.

FOUR. Crewcuts –At last, little boys’ clothes that are cool and classic but not pretentiously so. I just bought my son the schoolboy blazer, a relative bargain at $150.

FIVE. Lady GaGa – I’ve downloaded her entire album to my IPOD and I think she¹s the next Madonna. When I¹m running, her music is great motivation.

$150 is NEVER a bargain. Especially when it comes to clothing made for kids, who can maybe wear it for 3 months, before it is outgrown. Cute, yes. Bargain, no.

Jo Malone Colognes in Vanilla and Anise layered with Nectarine Blossom and Honey creates a creamsicle with a twist? Sounds so heavenly. I love the bottles. I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging.

The Laura Mercier Mineral Primer sounds like a must-have.
