Lather Up

LATHER is a skin and body care brand with three stores located in the U.S.  And lucky for me, there’s one only a short drive away from where I live in Pasadena!  I’d heard friends of mine raving about it for awhile, but I finally got the opportunity to test a few of their products and I was really impressed.

LATHER was started in 1999 with the motto “it’s what’s inside that counts.”  They use the most effective natural botanicals and never put in any synthetic fragrances or colors.  They also use organic ingredients whenever possible and are transitioning to making all of their products paraben-free by the middle of 2010.  I love hearing that about companies that I like – it makes me want to use their products even more because I know that I’m not putting chemicals in my body.  (Well, any more chemicals in my body.  I can’t quite seem to shake my love for diet coke….)

Out of everything that I tried, the Mint Thyme Body Wash was my favorite.  I love using minty products in the shower in the morning or after a workout and this one is just bursting with minty goodness.  It has both mint and peppermint essential oils in it, making it cooling on the skin (perfect for when you’re just trying to get clean after the gym).  It lathers up nicely and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth.  (It’s also good for your health since mint and peppermint are naturally antibacterial).  I’ll be using the thought of this as an incentive to get myself out of bed when I’m having a particularly tough morning and just want to pull the covers over my head and get another few hours of sleep.

My other favorite product is the Cranberry Sugar Rub.  It’s totally uplifting in a completely different way than the Mint Thyme Body Wash.  The scrub goes on with a slight warming sensation (perfect for the winter!) and is made up of a mixture of pure turbinado sugar granules and cranberry seeds.  It’s also full of many different oils, including sesame, sweet almond, kukui nut, and macadamia nut, which makes it very moisturizing and not drying at all like some scrubs.  The cranberry seeds exfoliate without being harsh or irritating your skin, but maybe the best part of the scrub is the scent.  It’s so delicious – fruity and energizing with a bit of a kick to it.  Love it!

My other recommendations include the Almond, Milk & Honey Body Butter (thick and rich without being greasy) and their Aromatherapy candles.  The candles are available in a wide variety of scents meant for all different moods.  (I tried Milk & Honey for a soothing effect and loved it).

LATHER has boutiques in Pasadena, Scottsdale, and Atlanta, but for those of you not within driving distance, you can order online at www.lather.com.

I love Lather! I live in Arcadia, so I’m close to the Pasadena location as well! It’s so nice to have a nice smelling product that doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin! Great to hear about the paraben-free goal; I’ve been switching to paraben-less products and have noticed a big difference in my skin.
